Job Description
U.S. Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-GA) seeks a highly motivated, innovative, and strategic Communications Director to lead an active communications operation. This person will serve as a member of the Senator’s senior management team and oversee all aspects of the Senator’s communications efforts. Above all, the ideal candidate will have an earnest passion for public service, a love for Georgia, a keen savvy for traditional and digital media strategy, a proven ability to multi-task, and possess exceptional writing and editing skills.
Competitive candidates will have at least 5 years of demonstrated professional experience working in a senior or mid-level communications role, preferably on Capitol Hill, in a federal or statewide campaign setting, or in the public affairs industry. The ideal candidate is also fiercely creative; stridently detail-oriented; able to work under tight deadlines; has meaningful personnel management experience; has directed robust digital content creation; and is a kind and gracious team player. Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Providing strategic counsel to the Senator and staff on messaging, communications, and media relations;
- Liaising with state and national media and serving as a spokesperson for the Senator;
- Developing and implementing traditional and digital media strategies to support the Senator’s agenda;
- Identifying advantageous press, digital and speaking opportunities;
- Drafting speeches, op-eds, press releases, talking points and preparing the Senator for media and public appearances;
- Overseeing the planning and execution of the Senator’s media events in DC and in state; and
- Managing a four-person communications team.
Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience. The job is based in Washington, D.C., without exception, but may require some travel to Georgia. Candidates with Georgia and/or Southern ties are a plus, and Spanish-speaking bilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
