About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to join our team as a Sr. Policy Specialist, reporting to the Director of Policy & Operations at TrustLab.
The Sr. Policy Specialist is responsible for crafting policies and operational guidelines to support TrustLab’s content moderation efforts, focusing on a wide range of illicit online content types. You will work closely with the Product, Engineering, Policy, and Operations teams to develop and implement policies and processes that help protect platform users.
You have strong policy development and implementation skills and can work closely with cross-functional stakeholders to deliver high-quality outputs. You also have experience delivering policy training and assisting with quality assurance. Experience in Trust and Safety and familiarity with online platforms is also beneficial.
You must be located in California or Texas. If located in the San Francisco Bay Area, the role will be hybrid so that you can work with our extended team at our headquarters in Palo Alto.
Responsibilities
- Perform audits and needs assessments of existing policies to identify gaps and limitations associated with existing frameworks.
- Draft policies based on extensive research, including examples of inappropriate content, gray literature, legal journals, academic articles, and contributions from civil society
- Collaborate with partner teams such as Product and Engineering to turn policies into operational guidelines and ensure cross-functional alignment.
- Develop policy training materials and deliver policy training to content moderators.
- Support quality assurance program by reviewing policy enforcement for compliance, accuracy, and room for improvement
- Collect and analyze key metrics such as incoming volumes, action rates, SLAs, quality rates, prevalence, and other critical metrics as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as Philosophy, Political Science, Public Policy, etc.
- Experience developing content policies and operational guidelines for digital platforms.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a data-driven mindset to drive decision-making and continuous improvement
- Strong knowledge of online platforms, content moderation, user behavior analysis, and regulatory compliance
- Familiarity with industry standards, best practices, and emerging trends in Trust & Safety
- Experience training vendor teams and improving SLAs and KPIs with content moderation service providers
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with a love of building policies and procedures from the ground up
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a related field such as Philosophy, Political Science, Public Policy, etc.
- Experience working with international partners across different time zones and cultures

The pay range for this role is:
80,000 - 115,000 USD per year(Remote - United States)
