This permanent, full-time position is with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) located in Salem, Oregon.

What you will do:
  • Develop web content for ODFW’s new website: The initial work of this role will be focused on writing web copy and contributing to the creation of the web architecture of ODFW’s new website that is currently under development. You will work closely with the project team to identify existing content for update and curating new content. Responsibilities also include customer journey mapping, web page development, and working with the vendor to create initial reference and training materials for web updating on the new platform.
  • Serve as ongoing web content editor for agency websites: Responsibilities include planning, creating, securing, and curating web content, including text, photos, and video, coordinating with division staff to drive traffic to website, and maintaining consistent editorial style.
  • Collaboration and training: Work with staff, volunteers, and contractors to identify, develop, and implement website enhancements. Provide training, policy, procedures, and guidance for contributors on development of web content and use of content management.
  • Serve as communications officer for statewide issues and initiatives: Provide communications planning, messaging, development of public information and presentations, media relations, and outreach support for a variety of resource issues. This position has a heavy focus on copy editing and ensuring affinity to the agency written style guide for all materials.

Working Conditions
  • This position requires a flexible work schedule that varies in the number of hours worked on a daily basis, but not necessarily each day, or a work schedule in which the starting and stopping times vary on a daily basis, but not necessarily each day, and does not exceed forty (40) hours in a work week. Work exceeding 40 hours per week requires prior approval by the supervisor.
  • Occasional travel throughout Oregon is required including weekend and overnight work, which may occur in severe weather conditions. Extensive driving in urban and rural areas. Occasional physical exertion related to outdoor field activities is required. Lifting or moving boxes of materials up to 50 pounds is required to support special events.
  • Position may require use of State issued credit card for business related purchases.

Criminal Records/DMV Check
Applicants are subject to both a criminal history and motor vehicles check. Driving is required for all positions. Out-of-state finalists will be required to present a current certified driving record for review to be considered for the position. Be prepared to obtain as soon as possible. You are expected to provide the out-of-state certified driving record before an offer can be made unless extenuating circumstances exist. Adverse background and/or driving information may disqualify you from further consideration.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Business or Public Administration, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, the Behavioral or Social Sciences or related degree and two years professional level experience in Public Relations or Affairs;
OR
  • Five years experience directly related to the position under recruitment; two of the five years must have been at the professional level.
Requested Skills:
  • Must possess prior experience in web-related work including editing web pages, posting digital assets, gathering and interpreting web analytics (G4 analytics platform) and search engine optimization best practices.
Must possess strong background and related experience in public relations and outreach.
  • Ability to deal with multiple tasks with varying deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Must possess good written and verbal communication skills; interpersonal, analytical and judgment skills; and must be able to work independently and with teams to perform a diverse range of information and communication activities.
  • Must have practical experience developing communication materials for external and internal audiences. This experience must include a strong background in copy editing; skill in plain language writing; development of communication plans; writing articles and placing stories in various print and electronic media; presentations before groups; analyses and explanations of technical and scientific information; knowledge of AP style guidelines; and basic understanding of video, audio, print and Web communications processes.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who are fluent in Spanish.
