CALIFORNIA VOLUNTEERS:

California Volunteers, Office of the Governor is the state office tasked with engaging Californians in service, volunteering and civic action to tackle our state’s most pressing challenges while lifting up all communities. Led by the state’s Chief Service Officer, Josh Fryday, California Volunteers is supported by a bipartisan 25-member Commission and a team of experts driven by a mission to mobilize all Californians to volunteer and serve in their communities.

 

#CALIFORNIANSFORALL COLLEGE CORPS:

The Governor’s California Comeback Plan included $146 million for the #CaliforniansForAll College Corps to be launched in partnership with colleges and universities. This new service opportunity will engage more than 6,000 college students across the state in solving problems in their communities, while learning key skills that will advance their academic and career success. College Corps Fellows will support and learn from local organizations working in three priority areas: K-12 Education, Climate Action and Food Insecurity. To help reduce student debt and ensure the opportunity is accessible to all, Fellows will receive a financial benefit of $10,000, including a living allowance and education award.


POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The College Corps Program Manager Peer Exchange and Training will be a key leader on the Programs team supporting the implementation of this innovative statewide service initiative. The primary role is to provide regular opportunities for College Corps partner campuses across the state to share best practices and lessons learned, and to design and deliver training sessions for program staff at these partner institutions. The College Corps Manager will need to be both detail-oriented and strategic, with the ability to juggle various projects while meeting deadlines and adapting to changing circumstances. 


DUTIES: 


·        Build a peer learning community of College Corps partner campuses to address common challenges and share best practices.

·        Plan and facilitate a monthly virtual meeting and annual in-person meeting of all College Corps partner campuses.

·        Design and deliver dynamic group training sessions for partner campus staff (and occasionally College Corps Fellows). 

·        Develop and maintain a library of resource materials and templates to support strong College Corps program design and implementation across the state.

·        Develop materials and templates for partner campuses to use in training their Fellows and their community host partners.

·        Support the onboarding of new College Corps staff at partner campuses.

·        Identify creative ways to share best practices and inspiring stories of impact from partner campuses, for example through a monthly newsletter.

·        Support Program Specialists in providing technical support for specific partner campuses as needed, for example to help strengthen program design, community partnerships, student recruitment strategies, etc.  

·        Help develop curriculum and training materials for the College Corps Statewide Cohort experience, as needed.

·        Support the Program Director and Deputy Director in organizing quarterly planning and strategy sessions for the College Corps team.

·        Update and manage partner contacts in Salesforce.


DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:


·        Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of experience implementing a national or state service program, ideally in a higher education setting.

·        Strong meeting design and facilitation skills, ideally with experience leading both virtual and in-person trainings for adult learners.

·        Strong written and verbal communications skills. 

·        Able to manage multiple projects at one time, including those that are high-profile and time sensitive. 

·        Extremely organized and detail oriented.

·        Self-directed, with a can-do attitude and the ability to adapt as needed in a fast-paced working environment.

·        Power user of Microsoft Office suite, in particular PowerPoint and/or other presentation software.

·        A track record of developing strong and trusting relationships with external partners.

·        Ability to travel occasionally and work an irregular and sometimes demanding schedule. 


WORK WEEK GROUPS:

This is an “Exempt” position that is served at the pleasure of the Governor. Incumbents a part of Work Week Group 2, i.e., Office Tech, Junior Staff Analyst, Assistant IPA, Associate IPA. Overtime for employees in these classes are not eligible for exemption under Section 7K of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), as defined all hours worked in excess of 40 hours in a period of 168 hours or seven consecutive 24-hour periods.

Incumbents a part of Work Week Group “E”, i.e., Staff IPA, Senior IPA, Senior Projects Analyst, Senior Advisor, Assistant to the Governor, Senior Assistant to the Governor. In included classes that are exempted from coverage under the FLSA because of the “white-collar” (administrative, executive, professional) exemptions. To be eligible for this exemption a position must meet both the “salary basis” and the “duties” test. There are seven WWGs; however, only 2 apply to Office of Planning and Research employees, WWG2 and WWGE.
