Mission Graduates is a nonprofit organization that increases the number of K-12 students in San Francisco's Mission District who are prepared for and complete a college education. We work towards fulfilling our mission through a wide range of after-school support services that serve over 3,700 children, youth and families each year. Our vision is to transform the culture of our neighborhood so that college becomes the expectation for Mission families, rather than the exception.
Program Overview:
The Parent Partner Program works with over 1,000 parents in 13 different schools to increase the skills, motivation and confidence of Latinx and African American parents in public schools to be more effective advocates for their children’s education and stronger partners on their path to college. By utilizing a peer-to-peer approach, rooted in cultural practices and in recognition of the fact that over 90% of our program participants are women of color, historically underrepresented in decision-making within large institutions like schools, strives to promote a culture of lifelong learning, achieve long-lasting systems change and develop non-traditional leaders in our partner schools.
Position Overview:
Parent Partner Program (PPP) Director is responsible for leading a program that includes 3 full-time staff, 22 Promotoras and 25 Parent Leaders working at 13 different schools to facilitate greater family involvement for Latinx families. In addition, the PPP Director will provide technical assistance and coaching to Extended Day Program and Beacon staff responsible for supporting Latinx and African American families at their respective schools. This position will be responsible for determining the direction of programming, creating and maintaining key partnerships and deciding on effective use of resources, based on input from Mission Graduates staff, Promotoras, Parent Leaders and an analysis of program evaluation data.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Supervise staff, consultants & volunteers
● Observe and provide the Family Engagement Coordinators, Promotoras, and Parent Partner Program Stafftaff with feedback during weekly check ins, while also being able to approach and have conversations with staff regarding any performance issues for all .
● Create and oversee the professional development sequence based on the needs of staff and maintain a current knowledge of the education and youth development fields.
● Evaluate staff twice per year and submit final evaluations to both staff and Human Resources based on yearly SMART goals.
● Hire, train, and supervise paid staff.
● In collaboration with other MG team members, oversee recruitment, training and supervision of volunteers and program consultants.
Program management & evaluation
● Provide vision, strategic leadership and development of the Parent Partner Program to ensure quality parent engagement to ensure the program aligns with the goals of Mission Graduates and their schools.
● In collaboration with the Senior Director, create program goals, objectives, outcomes and evaluation instruments before the start of each school year.
● In collaboration with the Director of Finance and Administration, develop and manage annual program budget.
● Maintain knowledge of and ensure full compliance with SFUSD family engagement and English Learner rules and best practices.
● Directly communicate and create relationships with various constituencies about our successes (School admin, funders, staff/promotoras, other MG folks)
● Oversee and manage contracts with external partners such as SF Public Library, Kinder 2 College, and other partners
● Align Family Engagement programs models and activties across all partner schools.
● Collaborate with Parent Partner Program Assistant Director and Senior Program Director, to create a scope and sequence of trainings for EDP/ Beacon Staff to further develop their knowledge on Parent Partner programs, activities, and responsibilities.
● Maintain weekly check-ins with the Senior Director, Beacon Directors and participate in Mission Graduates monthly leadership and all staff meetings.
Stakeholder Stewardship
● Coordination with other Mission Graduate Departments for collaboration
● Participate in external partnership meetings and events to help push the Parent Partner goals forward. External partners include, Immigrant Parent Voting Collaborative, North Mission Food Alliance, The Mission Promise Neighborhood CACHI
● Seek out and create relationships with additional external partners
● Participate in relevant district wide conversations and meetings to learn about initiatives taking place and to ensure the Parent Partner Program’s goals are taken into account.
● Identify opportunities to include parent voices into district wide conversations and facilitate their participation.
● Maintain and build the partnerships that will allow us to share valuable resources through our social media. Partnerships include the SF Human Services Agency, the Office of Civic Engagement and Immigrant Affairs, etc.
Supporting Direct Service
● Participate in regular planning meetings at our partner schools to ensure high quality programmatic and service delivery.
● Supervise coordinators and Promotoras that are providing direct services
● Maintain regular monthly or bi-monthly communication with school administration and other stakeholders
● Provide other support as needed which can include meeting facilitation, interpretation, etc.
● Stay up to date with district AAPAC and ELAC initiatives, meetings, and needs at schools.
● Other duties as required
Required Qualifications
● Prior experience working with SFUSD and schools preferred
● 3+ years of Program management and evaluation experience
● Strong written and verbal communication skills
● Bilingual Spanish/English fluency required.
● BA or BS required.
● Fingerprint and TB test clearance mandatory prior to hire.
● Experience working in communities of color with low-income populations.
Benefits Package: includes fully paid Medical, Dental and Vision; access to Pre-Tax Commuter Benefits, as well as access to 403(b) account at time of hire. We also offer an employer contribution for eligible staff* (eligibility to be explained at time of hire). In addition, we offer 13 paid holidays per year, as well as 8 personal hours per year and accrue PTO. Accrual rates depend on length of employment with Mission Graduates.
