Job Description
The Office of State Sen. Mark L. Walker is searching for a District Director to aid the office with constituent engagement. Employed by the Senator and reporting to the office’s Chief of Staff, the District Director will help advocate Sen. Walker’s legislative agenda within the 27th Senate District and lead constituent casework efforts.
Specifically, the responsibilities of the District Director include:
· Responding to constituent calls, emails, and letters
· Resolving constituent casework (e.g. facilitating appointments to Driver’s facilities, assisting with Medicaid enrollment, etc.)
· Planning in-district events
· Representing the Senator at community meetings/events as needed
· Assisting the Chief of Staff and Senator with other tasks as assigned
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree
· Previous government work experience strongly preferred
· Strong communication skills, including customer-service skills, and the ability to adapt messages depending on the audience
· Self-starter with a strong sense of initiative, with the ability to handle multiple projects, sometimes simultaneously
· Able to work effectively in a team environment
· Fluency in Spanish is preferred but not required
The Office of State Sen. Mark Walker is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Office does allow one day of authorized remote work per week. Salary starts at $55,500 with healthcare benefits, paid time off, and pension provided.
State Sen. Mark Walker was appointed to the Illinois Senate on May 11, 2024, after having served in the Illinois House of Representatives for over eight years. His legislative agenda focuses on the wellbeing and improvement of the whole state, as well as interests in the financial industry, indigenous rights, fighting global climate change, veterans’ affairs, and supporting workers’ rights.
