Job Description
Background: Every year, 340,000 women in the US are diagnosed with breast and gynecologic cancers. SHARE Cancer Support aims to support, educate, and empower these women and their caregivers.
NYC-based, but national in reach, SHARE engages communities and individuals largely through virtual programs and services, which include educational programs and support groups for patients and caregivers, national toll-free Helplines, HeatlhUnlocked online social-network communities, and clinical trial assistance. SHARE runs a powerful patient navigation program that addresses psychosocial, medical and financial barriers to quality care, and provides outreach to the public about the signs and symptoms of these cancers.
Position: SHARE has experienced significant growth over the past few years and is looking for a dynamic, motivated, and entrepreneurial leader to be their next CEO/Executive Director. This role requires a strong leader with vision who has a commitment to and passion for SHARE’s mission. Working closely with the Board, the CEO/ED will play an important part in helping to develop and execute a strategic plan to ensure continued focus on individuals affected by breast and gynecologic cancer, working collaboratively with the Board and staff to promote the sustainable growth of the organization.
This is a critical, visible position requiring someone with strong fiscal, fundraising and administrative skills. The CEO/ED will also lead the drive to increase the organization’s visibility, serving as a passionate advocate to varied constituencies and stakeholders on behalf of SHARE and engaging the stakeholders in the importance of addressing racial and economic disparities in health care.
Responsibilities:
- Reporting to SHARE’s Board of Directors, the CEO/ED will work to establish annual and long-range goals and implement strategies and policies to foster the growth and quality of the organization.
- Manage and direct all aspects of day-to-day operations, including the supervision of staff, development of management systems and procedures, fiscal responsibility, and the evaluation and improvement of all resources.
- Work to ensure timely and accurate creation, management, and analyses of budgets, expenditure reports, and operational data.
- Serve as the face and voice of SHARE to successfully engage and motivate stakeholders, building essential community partnerships.
- Together with the Vice President of Development and in collaboration with the Board, lead the organization’s corporate and institutional fundraising activities while cultivating and maintaining relationships with major individual donors.
- Cultivate a strong working relationship with the Board based on trust, confidence, and transparency with timely and regular communications.
- Engage the Board in its governance and fundraising goals by communicating opportunities, strategic choices, and the status of internal and external issues affecting the organization.
- Work with the Vice President of Communications to maintain consistency of messaging across all platforms and promote SHARE and its programs.
- Together with the Board, the Vice President of Outreach and key stakeholders, extend the organization’s reach into new communities by building relationships and partnerships.
- Prioritize regular evaluation of the impact of the organization and its resources.
- Update, enhance, and implement SHARE’s policies, systems, and procedures to improve the overall operations and effectiveness of the organization, which includes a hybrid work environment at the NYC office.
- Ensure programming, current and future, is meeting the needs of SHARE’s constituency while staying true to the mission of SHARE.
- Establish and maintain an environment that attracts, motivates, and retains highly qualified volunteers and staff members while championing a culture of collaboration and open communication.
Qualifications
- Minimum of ten years of demonstrated leadership experience in the nonprofit sector with at least seven years in a senior management position.
- Strong financial and business acumen, including an understanding of operations, technology, and strategic marketing; experience in creating and managing budgets.
- Ability to develop financial plans, analyze and interpret financial data, and manage resources.
- Solid experience working with and supporting a board of directors, and experience with long-term strategic planning.
- Ability to interact professionally with internal and external stakeholders who have diverse backgrounds, professional skills, and perspectives.
- Significant experience and track record of success in fundraising including the development and implementation of creative funding strategies
- Superior writing and verbal communication skills that are clear, concise, structured, articulate and persuasive that will enhance organizational visibility and positioning.
- Demonstrated strong organizational skills; able to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines; self-motivated and proactive.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to inspire trust, communicate objectives, and motivate staff, Board, donors, and partners.
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
- Sound judgment, credibility, and integrity.
- Strong commitment to the vision and mission of SHARE including breaking down barriers to health care.
