The Associate Director of Internal Communications will serve as a key member of the internal communications team, with a dual focus on managing both UCLA campuswide internal communications strategies and output, as well as Strategic Communications departmentwide outreach. Working closely with the Director of Internal Communications, the Associate Director helps advance UCLA's internal communications infrastructure and output, with a focus on but not limited to managing curation of a weekly newsletter to all UCLA employees; supporting UCLA's internal mass email system through editing and inputting campuswide messages into Salesforce Marketing Cloud; writing for various internal communications channels; developing new and innovative ways to reach internal audiences; and other duties as assigned. The Associate Director also supports team-building and professional development for the Strategic Communications and campus marketing and communications staff; leads the office's process for submitting work developed by Strategic Communications teams for relevant awards; drafts the Vice Chancellor for Strategic Communication's internal messaging to senior campus leaders, Strategic Communications staff, and marketing and communications professionals across campus; and supports the Vice Chancellor's role as the department's chief ambassador, to both internal and external audiences. This full-time position reports to the Director of Internal Communications. It is a full-time, hybrid position, with in-office days on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.


Salary & Compensation

Qualifications


  • 3-6 years of communications experience, supporting organizations with effective internal communications practices, or equivalent experience. – Required (Required)
  • Demonstrated experience in ensuring that communications align with strategic branding efforts. (Required)
  • Background in complex, global environment and industries. (Preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects is essential, as is an ability to suddenly shift priorities and deadlines, on occasion executing unexpected and large-scale projects in a relatively short timeframe. (Required)
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including ability to work with a wide range of individuals and departments in a complex organization. This includes a demonstrated ability to collaborate with high-level academic and administrative leadership and senior department leaders. (Required)
  • Strong communications skills in order to gather necessary input from others, determine priorities, and keep key leadership informed about relevant areas of communications strategy in a timely and effective manner. (Required)
  • Demonstrated ability to use communications strategies to inspire stakeholders, encourage involvement and support and establish brand preference. (Required)
  • Demonstrated ability to articulate goals, strategies, tactics and benchmarks. (Required)
  • Comprehensive, current knowledge of technology with the ability to fully utilize the capabilities of X, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram and other social media. (Required)
  • Demonstrated ability to edit documents and publications for style, accuracy, format and punctuation within tight deadlines. (Required)
  • Familiarity with WordPress or other web editing software. Familiarity with coding HTML in Salesforce Marketing Cloud or other email marketing platforms. (candidate can be trained on the job) (Preferred)
  • A strong strategic orientation, commitment to excellence and attention to detail. Ability to handle all information with sensitivity, discretion and solid judgment. (Required)
  • Familiarity with Google Apps (Docs, Sheets, Slides). Familiarity with WordPress or other web editing software. Basic understanding of graphic design and familiarity with graphic design software (PowerPoint, Adobe products). (Required)
  • Ability to initiate and maintain cooperative working relationships with co- workers, supervisors and managers. Ability to work harmoniously and as a team player, thrive in a team-based environment, and skill in fostering teamwork among others. (Required)

Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations


  • Bachelor's Degree from a four-year college or university in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. (Preferred)
