Position Overview: Congressman Mast is seeking a skilled and experienced Communications Director to join his team and lead his communications efforts. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional communication skills, strategic thinking abilities, and a thorough understanding of media relations and public affairs. Reporting directly to the Member and Chief of Staff, the Communications Director will develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies to effectively convey our message to key stakeholders, including constituents, the media, and other relevant audiences.


Responsibilities:




  • Develop and execute comprehensive communication plans to support the legislative agenda and priorities of the Congressman.
  • Serve as the primary spokesperson for the Congressman, effectively articulating his positions and messaging to the media and the public.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with members of the media, editorial boards, and other relevant stakeholders to secure positive coverage and promote our objectives.
  • Collaborate closely with the Congressman, legislative staff, and other stakeholders to identify communication opportunities and develop messaging strategies.
  • Manage all aspects of media relations, including drafting press releases, op-eds, and talking points, coordinating interviews, and monitoring media coverage.
  • Oversee the development of digital and social media content, including website updates, social media posts, videos, and graphics, to engage constituents and amplify our message.
  • Provide strategic communications counsel to the Congressman and senior leadership, anticipating potential challenges and recommending proactive communication strategies.
  • Monitor and analyze media trends, public opinion, and legislative developments to inform communication strategies and tactics.
  • Manage the communications budget and allocate resources effectively to maximize impact and achieve communication objectives.




Qualifications:




  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, political science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in strategic communications, media relations, or public affairs, preferably in a political or legislative environment.
  • Proven track record of developing and executing successful communication strategies that advance organizational objectives and enhance public perception.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex issues into clear and compelling messages for diverse audiences.
  • Strong media relations skills, with experience pitching and securing media coverage and cultivating relationships with reporters and editors.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to anticipate challenges, identify opportunities, and develop proactive communication plans.
  • Experience managing digital and social media platforms, including content creation, community management, and analytics.
  • Knowledge of the legislative process, political landscape, and key policy issues impacting the Republican Party.
  • Commitment to advancing conservative principles and promoting the goals of the Republican Party.
