Literacy Partners is seeking a passionate and experienced, temporary, Health Equity Manager to join our team for a three-month assignment starting in mid-April. In this vital role, you’ll provide direct support to adult students enrolled in our English for Parents program, helping to advance health equity and ensure families have the resources they need to thrive—all while covering for a valued team member on parental leave.

This temporary Health Equity Manager role is a 40-hour-per-week position at $30/hour. The ideal candidate is based in New York City and available to work on-site, providing direct, hands-on support to the families we serve through our programs.
As a temporary Health Equity Manager, you will play a key role in our English for Parents (EFP) program. You’ll work directly with parents and caregivers enrolled in the program to ensure they have the resources, confidence, and support they need to overcome barriers and stay on track toward their educational goals. In this collaborative role, you'll partner closely with our ESL instructors, and program staff to create a welcoming, empowering learning environment that puts families first and helps them thrive both in and beyond the classroom.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct a comprehensive literacy and educational/vocational participant assessment to develop a plan of service to meet participants’ needs.
- Collaborate with and refer participants to various community partners for wrap-around services, including health literacy, financial literacy, and more.
- Identify post-secondary transition programs, and assist program participants in the transition into post-secondary education, apprenticeship programs, or training.
- Maintain case notes by documenting client’s goals and outcomes using the ASISTS database.
- Monitor participants’ progress, maintain student folders, and follow up frequently.
- Facilitate and coordinate workshops and information sessions.
- Attend community partner meetings and case management team meetings.
- Communicate effectively and collaborate with key staff and instructors to ascertain barriers that specific participants may be experiencing that prevent them from meeting their educational goals.
- Perform other tasks deemed necessary to assist in achieving service and programmatic goals.
Qualifications
- Some college required. Bachelor’s degree preferred in education or a related field. Relevant experience in adult education (ABE, ESOL, & HSE) a plus.
- Strong awareness of the barriers facing adult learners looking to succeed in workforce, technology, and academic environments.
- Relevant experience in counseling individuals and facilitating informational sessions.
- Must be knowledgeable of the available educational, training, and employment resources.
- Good knowledge of labor market trends and requirements and the skills, abilities, and experiences required in various occupations.
- Demonstrates initiative and resourcefulness, tact and courtesy, good judgement and problem solving abilities.
- Proficiency in Spanish is highly desirable.
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Google Drive.
- Able to work both independently and in cross-functional teams.
- Outstanding organizational and time management skills.
- A commitment to the Oxford Comma, its consistent usage, and a sense of humor.
