Summary: Champions for Children is in search of a Human Resources Director with a robust skill set that includes expert knowledge in HR management and operational practices, interpersonal, and communications abilities. This senior management position, reporting to the CEO, is essential in steering our human resource management activities, ensuring strategic use of human resources in alignment with our mission. The ideal candidate will bring a customer service philosophy to our employees, fostering a supportive and empathetic work environment. This is an HR department of 2 supporting approximating 120 employees. Ideal candidate has a hands-on approach and a thorough understanding and ability to perform all HR functions.
Champions for Children is a Tampa Bay Area nonprofit dedicated to building stronger families with thriving children throughout Tampa Bay. Our mission is to prevent child abuse and provide family education programs that nurture the potential of every child and family.
Essential Functions:
- Develop HR strategies and initiatives that resonate with our business strategy and core values.
- Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and accreditation requirements.
- Administer HR plans and procedures, maintain employee handbook, and contribute to policy development.
- Design department goals, objectives, and systems, focusing on quality and effectiveness.
- Manage employee relations, conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
- Oversee, develop, and manage compensation, performance evaluations, payroll processing, and benefits administration.
- Lead recruitment, onboarding, training, and development initiatives.
- Supervise the HR Coordinator, encouraging growth and professional development.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Profound working knowledge of HR principles and practices, including payroll processing.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
- Strong emphasis on empathy, confidentiality, collaboration, credibility, and approachability.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Management, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional HR experience, preferably in a non-profit setting. Generalist background is most compatible.
- PHR or SHRM-CP certification, or eligibility to obtain within 6 months.
Requirements:
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and HRIS systems (ADP Workforce Now is a plus).
- Ability to perform physical tasks and travel within the Tampa Bay area when needed.
- This is not a remote position but will offer some hybrid flexibility after the first 3 months.
- Sensitivity to the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of the populations we serve.
- Valid Florida driver’s license, reliable car, and active auto insurance.
- Successful completion of a Florida Level 2 criminal background check, motor vehicle records check, and drug screening.
