The McCain Institute seeks a full-time Research Advancement Manager reporting to the Executive Director. This role will support programs with funding and public and private prospect research, proposal preparation, and post-award management. Acting as a liaison across ASU, the manager will collaborate with the Office of Research and Sponsored Project Administration (ORSPA) to ensure compliance with sponsor and ASU policies, providing expert guidance to support McCain Institute.
This position is located in Washington, D.C. and offers eligibility for a hybrid work schedule; however, fully remote arrangements may also be considered.

Essential Duties
- Identify and review funding opportunities: Search for funding opportunities, review announcements, and assess eligibility and sponsor requirements.
- Assist with proposal preparation: Support program teams in drafting budget justifications, completing sponsor forms, and ensuring compliance with guidelines.
- Submit proposals: Prepare and submit applications to ASU’s Office of Research and Sponsored Project Administration (ORSPA) for review, approval, and transmittal.
- Provide administrative support for program teams: Offer guidance to program teams during proposal development and throughout the grant lifecycle.
- Manage post-submission requests: Assist with sponsor requests, such as Just In Time submissions, revised budgets, and other follow-up actions.
- Ensure compliance and financial management: Work with ASU and ORSPA to ensure timely account reconciliation, monitor compliance, and manage post-award actions like no-cost extensions and re-budgets.
- Resolve funding and account issues: Help program teams address compliance issues and ensure accurate fund management and timely revenue collection.
- Train staff: Provide training for unit staff on sponsored project management best practices to ensure compliance with university and sponsor regulations.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field. Seven years’ experience in any combination of the following areas: proposal submissions, contract negotiation, grant and contract administration and financial administration, OR Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skill and abilities have been achieved.

- Experience in preparing budgets and financial narratives, providing recommendations to management and supporting team members as necessary.
- Experience in researching and identifying grant opportunities from both public and private sources to support programmatic initiatives
- Experience in critical thinking, problem-solving, and independent decision-making skills.
- Experience in navigating and responding to highly complex situations involving multiple, and sometimes competing, university constituencies.
- Experience in defining tasks, responsibilities, and outcomes, with experience in resource planning to achieve project or department goals and timelines.
- Experience in understanding user needs and prioritize, manage, and resolve urgent or competing requests.
- Experience in interpersonal skills with proven ability to communicate effectively in person, in writing, and by phone.
- Experience in building and maintaining effective working relationships across diverse groups, with the ability to collaborate across boundaries and resolve conflicts.
- Experience in preparing and editing and reviewing complex documents, process improvement proposals, and detailed reports.
- Experience in analyzing trends and metrics to support informed decision-making for the unit.

- Climate-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of being in a stationary position.
