The Public Affairs Specialist I promotes the City of Miami Gardens' brand through oral, written and graphic communications; effective use of social media and web based formats; event coordination and planning; and creation of strategic partnerships with public and private entities. This position plays a key role in the advancement of the City's communication and public relations goals and will assist in coordinating with City officials and personnel on a regular basis.

Incumbent(s) may be required to perform all duties listed, and may be required to perform additional, position-specific tasks. Delivers superior internal and external customer service. Establishes and maintains effective internal and external customer relationships. Assists with the execution of media outreach and event planning initiatives liaising with City Council, City Administration, other City staff, vendors and other external business partners.Work alongside Department liaisons to manage assigned projects from conceptualization through execution.Monitors the City's annual special events calendar and strategy to ensure annual goals are met. Manage timelines, event budgets and execution of assigned City events.Crafts media materials, including media lists, pitch letters, fact sheets, social media posts and press releases.Ongoing monitoring, tracking and reporting for earned media placements.Manages various aspects of local market PR to assist with promoting and reinforcing the City's brand identity.Cultivates and maintains relationships with a range of internal partners and identify opportunities to positively spotlight City programs and events.Obtains promotional items for the City. Assists with day-of coordination of City events. Assists with taking, producing, and obtaining photographs and video materials in accordance with best practices for securing intellectual property. Assists with various public, community and/or media relations meetings, as directed. Provides event information and updates to Council, City staff, general public and other agencies, as directed. Prepares detailed event reports at the completion of each event. Creates marketing and promotional materials and campaigns, both print and electronic. Promotes events and services through public relations initiatives. Assists with the maintenance and update of the City's residential mailing list. Performs other operational and administrative functions as requested.

Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office equipment; such as but not limited to a personal computer, calculator, copier and fax machine. Work will require a considerable amount of time spent using a personal computer. Work is performed fast-paced environment, both indoors and outdoors throughout the community. Must be able to lift, carry, push and pull articles weighing up to 20 pounds. The noise level in the work environment various from moderately quiet to noisy.
