SUMMARY: The District Director (DD) serves as the Member's senior staffer in the Congressional District. This position reports to the Chief of Staff. The DD works closely with the Chief of Staff, Legislative Director, and Communications Director to establish strategies, plans, and activities for the Member. Additionally, the DD represents the Member at events and meetings throughout the local community. The DD also supervises staff and oversees all district office operations, workflow, assignments of responsibilities, and performance of the team.

JOB DUTIES:

● Collaborates with the Member, Chief of Staff, Legislative Director, and Communications Director to ensure district office strategies and operating plans align with the Member's strategic vision and goals

● Facilitates information sharing between the Member's district office(s) and the D.C. office

● Interviews, selects, and trains employees of district office(s) to ensure the office(s) are appropriately staffed alongside Chief of Staff

● Supervisory: Directly supervises employees; carries out responsibilities in accordance with office policy and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training district office employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining district office employees; addressing complaints; and resolving problems.

● Represents the Congresswoman and/or assigns appropriate staff to do so in the district office(s) as needed;

● Provides primary staffing and security coordination for the Congresswoman during in-district work periods

● Plans, assigns and evaluates work of employees in district offices in coordination with Chief of Staff

● Conducts district office(s) staff meetings;

● Speaks to local groups when the Congresswoman is unavailable;

● Maintains close communication with the Washington, D.C. office;

● Travels throughout the district at regular intervals to keep abreast of local concerns giving special attention assigned legislative portfolio priorities;

● Meets with elected officials and representatives of local groups on behalf of the Congresswoman;

● Schedules meetings with federal and district government agencies as necessary;

● Works with the Congresswoman's Communications Director and Director of Scheduling to ensure appropriate media participation for in-district events;

● Other duties as assigned or as arise

The ideal candidate has the following characteristics:

● Management of a team in a previous role;

● 3-5 years of previous experience in building coalitions and bringing key stakeholders together. Individuals with ties to community gathering, nonprofit, business, academia or government work are ideal applicants;

● A commitment to service-oriented leadership;

● Strong written and oral communication skills

● Flexibility to collaborate with various partners and stakeholders

● Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays. This will not always be a 9 to 5 job;

● Strong relationship management and project management experience.

Salary Range: $90,000 - $105,000 commensurate with experience and job title.
