About Student Advocacy

Student Advocacy provides legal representation and counsel for students in grades Pre-K-12 in Westchester and Putnam Counties, NY who face barriers to learning due to disabilities and other challenges. Our organization is committed to making legal services on education related matters accessible to all families and therefore represents those who are primarily low-income and from historically marginalized communities. Serving 500 students annually, we work with students, families, school district personnel and community partners to ensure equity and access to education for all children and youth in our community.

Position Summary

Student Advocacy seeks a committed, compassionate, and organized individual to join its close-knit team. The Program Assistant will provide administrative support to attorneys, advocates and staff, with a focus on working with Spanish speaking clients. The Program Assistant will also be engaged in community networks to advance and promote the work of the organization. 

Responsibilities

  • Provide intake and registration for clients, especially those who are Spanish speaking
  • Serve as interpreter for families in their communication with attorneys, advocates and staff
  • Translate client documents and written information from English to Spanish
  • Maintain client data and documents in LegalServer, our secure case management system
  • Conduct client satisfaction evaluations in English and Spanish
  • Attend community network meetings virtually and in person
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned as required

Qualifications

  • BA degree in education, human services or related field; AA degree considered
  • Fluency in written and spoken Spanish required
  • Experience working in an education or nonprofit organization highly desirable
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to engage across cultures, identities, and ethnicities
  • Excellent time management, ability to multi-task, and work as part of a team
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, experience with databases, and virtual platforms

Benefits: Student Advocacy offers a competitive benefit package that includes health insurance, 20+ paid days off plus sick time and holidays. Hybrid option after initial on-boarding period. This is a full-time position with a salary range of $43,000 - $47,000, depending on experience.
