Job Summary

The Policy Manager assists in developing and executing ABHW’s policy and advocacy strategies and helps implement its legislative and regulatory strategic plan. This position reports to the Vice President of Government Affairs and works closely with the Senior Director of Regulatory Affairs on certain projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in carrying out federal advocacy activities advancing the policy priorities of ABHW.
  • Help draft letters to Congress, the Administration, states, and other entities outlining ABHW policy priorities.
  • Develop issue briefs and talking points on federal and state policy for use by ABHW staff and members in their advocacy efforts.
  • Draft documents intended to inform ABHW members on developments on Capitol Hill and in the Administration.
  • Educate other stakeholders on ABHW’s policy priorities.
  • Contribute to planning and implementing ABHW’s Hill Day and other meetings.
  • Monitor and report on Congressional hearings, briefings, and other behavioral health care related events.
  • Engage with coalitions and support activities with strategic partners and ABHW committees.
  • Assist with maintaining and updating ABHW’s legislative and regulatory tracking documents.
  • Aid in identifying and developing content for social media platforms.

Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with an emphasis on careful attention to detail in composing and editing materials for print and electronic media.
  • Effectively able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously; able to conduct advance planning and meet deadlines.
  • A high degree of personal initiative; willing and able to work both independently and in a collaborative, fast-paced environment with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to understand and accurately represent ABHW’s positions in written and oral communications.
  • Currently residing in the DC Metro area or willing to relocate.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree and one to three years of related work history (advocacy, policy analysis, and familiarity with health care, managed care, or behavioral health a plus).
  • Understanding of federal legislative and regulatory processes.
  • Experience with virtual meeting platforms, membership databases, and social media platforms.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
