Born through mergers between Black and Latinx organizations in San Francisco and Oakland, Causa Justa :: Just Cause (CJJC) builds grassroots power and leadership to create strong, equitable communities. In 2020, CJJC led its Oakland allies in achieving one of the strongest eviction moratoriums in the country. Earlier in its history, CJJC provided leadership on the campaigns that resulted in due process for immigrants in San Francisco and Oakland. Through rights-based services, policy campaigns, civic engagement, and direct action, we improve conditions for working-class communities and contribute to building the larger multi-racial, multi-generational movement needed for fundamental change.


About this Role: We’re recruiting to fill our Organizer position. This position includes working as part of a staff team, as well as working with CJJC membership, to build a robust multi-racial, multi-generational, multi-lingual movement of working class power.

Organizers will be supporting membership through their pathway to leadership through coordination of New Member Orientations, Organizing Trainings, Know Your Rights Trainings, and other programmatic work. Organizers work to build power, motivate and engage member leaders in finding solutions to current issues they face through mobilization and advocacy. 

 

Primary duties and deliverables include but are not limited to the following: 


  • Conduct New Member Orientations, Organizing Trainings, & Know Your Rights Trainings 
  • Develop relationships with tenant leaders, youth and community members who have been directly impacted by systemic racism, gun violence, and/or incarceration. 
  • Communicate with members through one on ones, report outs, social media, and email regarding campaign developments and upcoming events. 
  •  Establish and coordinate a team of members to support the coalition work.  
  • Build relationships with key community members and organizations
  • Develop leadership skills 
  • Organize issue-oriented campaigns
  • Execute an outreach plan through participation of CJJC events and meetings. 
  •  Attend leadership development training and, once trained, lead and participate in additional trainings, workshops, and events.  
  •  Provide written reports and updates weekly to supervisor 

Other duties include:

  • Recruits new members through outreach such as phonebanking and canvassing
  • Conducts one-on-one calls with CJJC membership
  • Maintain member database tracking, keeping member list updated. 
  • Provide support as needed to organization wide drives such as annual fundraising appeals and civic engagement
  • Create agendas and content for member activities.

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Commitment to racial justice and language justice
  • Has familiarity with social justice campaign organizing or strategic campaigning
  • Proficient in google suites or Microsoft office 
  • Lives in SF or Oakland, or is willing to relocate within the next 3 months. 

Desired Qualifications: 

  • Multi-lingual; ability to hold discussion and provide tenant support in Spanish
  • Ability to communicate effectively, and problem solve
  • The ability to learn and use member database technology (CRM), Google Suites, and Zoom. 
  • Must be proactive in the areas of campaign development and leadership development.
  • The ability to train member leaders on accessing Zoom and Google Forms.
