The Team You’ll Work With

The Office of the Deputy Mayor for Strategic Initiatives (DMSI) ensures that the City government solves
problems through holistic, accountable, and transparent means. With a focus on many of the
administration’s top priorities – from creating opportunities for young people to strengthening the
city’s civic infrastructure – the office works in partnership with stakeholders inside and outside of city
government to develop, scale, coordinate, and deliver policies, plans, and operations equitably and
sustainably.

The Deputy Mayor also oversees the following agencies and offices: the Department of Youth and
Community Development, the Office of Food Policy, the Office of Non-Profit Services, the Office of
Childcare and Early Childhood Education, the Center for Innovation through Data Intelligence, the
Children’s Cabinet, and the Mayor’s Office of Racial Equity and Justice.

The Problems You’ll Solve

Under the direction of the Principal Advisor, the Senior Policy Advisor for OCCECE will perform the
following functions:

  • Children and Family Policy and Programs – Focus on policies and programs that support

children and working families, via partnership with the Office of Childcare and Early Childhood



Education.

  • Strategy Development – Partner with the Principal Advisor and other members of the team to

fully develop proposals for new initiatives, programs, and/or inter-agency interventions to

support the goals of DMSI.

  • Project Management – Oversee and monitor projects, creating project plans with clear goals

and deliverables, and ensuring timelines are met.

  • Systems Creation: Cultivate a toolkit of available resources that can be applied in the team’s
engagements, including the identification and development of new templates, techniques, and
frameworks.
  • Meeting Planning – Create schedules, meeting agendas, presentation decks (PowerPoints), and

follow-up materials.

  • Research & Analysis – Conduct and/or assist other staff in performing qualitative and

quantitative research in connection with policy proposals, projects, and DMSI initiatives,

including the development of data visualizations.

  • Communications –Create talking points and speeches for the Deputy Mayor, as needed.

Communicate to external stakeholders on behalf of the Office of the Mayor and the Office of

the Deputy Mayor as needed.

  • Interagency Coordination – Coordinate with agencies, boards, commissions, and organizations

relevant to DMSI proposed initiatives, meet project goals and timelines, and review agency and

interagency work products.

  • General Support –Prepare briefing memoranda, provide background research and information,

and respond to correspondence from constituents or elected officials.

About You

  • You have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college and 7+ years of related experience; or
a master’s degree in business, public administration, economics, public policy, or related fields;
and 5+ years of related work experience.
  • You can work independently and within a fast-paced environment, as well as thrive in a
collaborative and supportive team environment.
  • You are a self-starter who positively contributes to a learning culture and collaborative team
and is willing to perform the full range of tasks required in a dynamic and rapidly responsive
organization.
  • You are able to resolve and/or escalate issues in a timely fashion.
  • You are highly analytical and data-driven.
  • You have a thorough knowledge and are proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • You have exceptional written, oral communication, and presentation skills.
  • You have experience of working with multiple stakeholders.
  • You must maintain confidentiality and use outstanding judgment daily.

Salary

The City of New York Office of the Mayor’s compensation package includes a market competitive

salary, equity for all full-time roles and exceptional benefits. Our cash compensation range for this role

is $90,000 to $115,000.
