The Who We Are Project is a non-profit media organization founded by attorney and racial justice advocate Jeffery Robinson, inspired by the transformative impact of the award-winning documentary film Who We Are: A Chronicle of Racism in America. Our mission is to challenge and reshape the dominant narrative of America’s history by uncovering and sharing factual, truth-based content that exposes the legacy and ongoing impact of anti-Black racism.

Position Summary:
The Who We Are Project is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Program Director to join our growing team, reporting to the Managing Director. This key position will lead the development of educational programs, curriculum, and a technology platform to support our mission of exposing the legacy of anti-Black racism. This role will involve developing customized content, building strategic partnerships, and expanding program reach through innovative learning experiences and digital solutions. The Program Director will also drive sustainability efforts and support the organization’s growth.
The role will include travel and offers a unique opportunity to shape a start-up nonprofit dedicated to racial justice and education.
Compensation:
The salary range for this position is $130,000-$160,000 annually, depending on experience. Additional benefits and performance-based incentives may apply.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, development, and implementation of educational programs and curriculum aligned with the organization's mission and strategic goals
- Respond to requests from, and conduct proactive outreach to, schools, corporations, institutions, and agencies seeking education on anti-Black racism.
- Leverage and customize the organization’s existing media projects to create meaningful learning experiences and programs for external partners.
- Oversee the exploration and adoption of systems for online distribution of learning programs and experiences, expanding program reach.
- Work with historians, educators, and media teams to develop accurate, high-quality content for programs and services.
- Build and maintain strategic partnerships to expand program visibility and impact.
- Drive the evaluation of programs, ensuring they meet objectives and foster meaningful dialogue and change.
- Support the Managing Director in developing sustainable revenue models and program strategies.
- Grow and manage a team of internal and external contributors to ensure effective program execution.
- Manage program logistics, including scheduling, venue selection, and materials procurement.
Qualifications & Competencies
- 5+ experience in instructional design, content development, or program management may be considered in lieu of formal education.
- Proven experience in program management, curriculum design, or instructional design, ideally in racial justice, education, or a related field.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to advancing racial equity, justice, and inclusion, with a deep understanding of systemic racism.
- Experience developing and managing technology platforms for educational purposes.
- Excellent leadership, collaboration, and communication skills.
- Ability to build and maintain strategic partnerships and engage diverse stakeholders.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to work in a start-up nonprofit environment.
- Passion for The Who We Are Project’s mission and a deep commitment to advancing racial equity and education.
- Degree in Education, Learning Design, and Tech, Public Policy, or a related field preferred.
- Experience with grant writing and fundraising is a plus.
