Taxpayers for Common Sense is a non-partisan, non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring that taxpayer dollars are spent responsibly and efficiently. We work on a wide range of issues including agriculture, energy, national security, and climate along with general budget and tax issues to promote transparency, accountability, and fiscal responsibility in federal spending.


Position Overview

Location: Midwest Region, United States

The Midwest Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for expanding and strengthening TCS’s presence and influence in the Midwest region. This role involves local outreach, organizing events, networking with local organizations and press, and representing TCS at various forums. The ideal candidate will have several years of experience in community outreach, public relations, or a related field, and will be adept at understanding and communicating the intersection of federal and state policy.


Key Responsibilities

Local Outreach and Organizing

  • Develop and implement outreach strategies to engage local communities and stakeholders.
  • Organize and manage local events, including town halls, workshops, and public forums.
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with local organizations, community leaders, and media outlets.
  • Testify at field hearings and speak to local press on behalf of TCS.

Networking and Relationship Building

  • Build and maintain a network of contacts with other organizations, policymakers, and the press.
  • Represent TCS at regional events, conferences, and meetings to promote our mission and objectives.
  • Develop familiarity with local issues and how they intersect with federal policies.

Communication and Advocacy

  • Provide detailed reports and information to the DC staff about regional activities and opportunities for engagement.
  • Develop press releases, social media, and other marketing materials tailored to the Midwest audience.
  • Act as a spokesperson for TCS in the Midwest, ensuring consistent and accurate messaging.

Travel and Representation

  • Travel as needed within the Midwest region to attend events, meet with stakeholders, and represent TCS.
  • Travel to Washington, DC at least twice per year for training, meetings, and organizational events.


Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience in community outreach, organizing, public relations, or a related area.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proven ability to network and build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience in public speaking and media relations.
  • Ability to travel frequently within the Midwest region and occasionally to Washington, DC.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Midwest regional issues and political landscape.
  • Experience working in a non-profit or advocacy organization.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fiscal responsibility and government accountability.
