Since 1985, we have connected 4,000+ teachers directly with industry professionals to learn firsthand about today's workforce and help them translate those learnings to the classroom, impacting more than 4 million students. We are a small but mighty staff of six full-time and one part-time.

Position Overview

Ignited is seeking a Director of Operations to join our team. This role includes bookkeeping, payroll, accounts receivable/payable, financial reporting, budgeting, coordinating audits and tax filings, collaborating with lawyers on contracts, overseeing information systems, and coordinating employee benefits. The ideal candidate will have a versatile skill set, thrive in a collaborative team, and be willing to handle various detailed and administrative tasks. Flexibility and adaptability to our small, dynamic nonprofit's evolving needs are essential.

This is a full-time, exempt position, reporting to the CEO. This position is remote-work eligible with weekly requirements to report to Ignited’s office in Santa Clara dependent on business needs (~15-20% of time).

What You’ll Do:

  • Finance & Legal (~75%): 
  • Manage all aspects of A/R, A/P, Banking, Payroll
  • Manage Ignited’s financial activities under the direction of the CEO and Board of Directors (e.g. month & year end reporting, annual budgeting & forecasting, audit & tax preparation with external CPA, etc.)
  • Work with pro bono legal support to prepare/review, negotiate terms and finalize contracts with Sponsors, Teachers (non-employee) and with other contracted service providers.
  • Manage organizational compliance including state & local filings, federal grant terms, policies and budgetary restrictions (in collaboration with contracted Compliance Specialist). 
  • Maintain policies for all organizational insurance policies (e.g. Worker’s Compensation, General Liability, etc). 
  • Information Technology (~15%):
  • Manage and troubleshoot Ignited’s tech infrastructure, including devices/computers, websites and cloud environments. 
  • Human Resources (~5%):
  • Administer employee benefits and 401K plans, manage hiring for staff (e.g. summer temp staff), ensure compliance with employment laws, and update employee handbook and training.
  • Facilities/Office Operations (<5%):
  • Manage Ignited in-kind office space needs at Agilent Technologies with regard to facilities needs in collaboration with key Agilent staff.

Key Qualifications:

  • 5 years of experience in financial management and employment regulation compliance, including managing accounts receivable, accounts payable, banking, and payroll. Strong understanding of GAAP and financial management. Skilled in generating financial reports and assisting in budget development and re-forecasting.
  • Experience with federal grant compliance, including budgets and reporting, is a plus. 
  • Experience with basic IT management, including device/system set-up and troubleshooting. 
  • Willingness to learn CRMs (Drupal 7/Backdrop), CMSs (Salesforce) and cloud environments (Microsoft/Google) a plus. 
  • Nonprofit experience preferred. 
  • Interest in recommending and implementing best practices to enhance organization efficiency and quality.

The position requires frequent use of computer and handwritten work; requires prolonged sitting or standing through the course of the workday.

Position Term, Hours, Location and Salary

This position reports to the CEO and is a full-time (40 hrs/week), exempt position eligible for remote or hybrid work based at the Ignited office within Agilent Technologies in Santa Clara, California. Residence in California is required. The ability to report to the office on a weekly basis is required, as dictated by business need. Weekly hours for this position are flexible, with very limited weekends or evenings as dictated by business need. Salary is $105,000-130,000, based on qualifications and potential contributions to Ignited.
