As an integral part of our organization, the Vice President of Corporate Communications will play a pivotal role in shaping our brand image, fostering positive relationships with stakeholders, and driving strategic communications initiatives.

Job Summary:

Join the Washington Commanders as the Vice President of Corporate Communications and help lead our communication game. You'll build and lead a small and nimble corporate communications team to craft and execute strategies that boost our reputation, build relationships with fans, partners, and other key stakeholders, and elevate our brand. Role location: This role is based in our College Park, Maryland office, fully in-person 4-5 days a week, with flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, particularly during the NFL season.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a strategic corporate communications plan aligned with the team's objectives and brand identity.
  • Serve as the primary spokesperson for the Washington Commanders, managing media relations and fostering positive relationships with local, national, and international media outlets.
  • Create compelling content, including press releases, statements, and talking points, to effectively communicate key messages to various stakeholders.
  • Oversee crisis communications efforts, providing timely and transparent communication in response to sensitive issues or incidents.
  • Collaborate closely with internal departments, including Sponsorships, Ticketing, Marketing, Community Relations, and Football Operations, to ensure alignment and consistency in messaging.
  • Lead and mentor a team of communications professionals, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities.
  • Monitor media coverage and industry trends, identifying opportunities to enhance the team's visibility and reputation.
  • Coordinate press conferences, interviews, and other media events, ensuring seamless execution and maximizing media exposure.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in corporate communications, public relations, or a related field, preferably within the sports industry.
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Proven track record of developing and executing successful communication strategies, with a focus on brand building, executive profile building, and telling stories about the success of the team.
  • Strong media relations skills, with experience managing relationships with journalists, reporters, and media outlets.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with the sponsorships team to leverage partnerships and enhance the team's brand visibility.
  • Experience and a deep understanding of corporate PR, including crisis communications and reputation management.
  • Familiarity and experience working in the sports industry preferred, with a passion for football and a deep understanding of the sports landscape.
