Position Title: Associate/Senior Associate, External Affairs

Supervisor: Deputy Director, Marketing & Communications

Department/Division: External Affairs

Hours:40 hours workweek (exempt)

Location:Washington, D.C.

Salary range: $70,720 - $107,120 plus bonus & benefits

Position Overview

The Associate/Senior Associate will join a growing strategic marketing and communications team, within External Affairs, aimed at elevating CEBA’s brand across the globe to achieve its vision of a carbon-free global electricity system.

This role will work with the Deputy Director, Marketing & Communications, to support CEBA communications initiatives aimed at amplifying the work of CEBA and its members. The role will support communications focused on engaging members, relying on research, planning, stakeholder outreach, and data analysis. The role will involve editorial planning for institutional content, reporting on campaign engagement and marketing efforts, and contributing to executive communications.


Core Responsibilities:

The Associate/Senior Associate is a key member of the External Affairs Team with a focus on developing and executing strategies to elevate the profile and priorities of CEBA through essential duties and responsibilities, including:

  • Collaborate with program and communications leaders in developing compelling key messages across CEBA’s core advocacy initiatives to support communications to members, potential members, industry stakeholders, donors, and policy influencers.
  • Craft engaging written and visual communications products, including advocacy letters, blogs, rapid-response commentary representing organizational priorities, social media content, newsletters, op-eds, and presentations.
  • Support implementation of a strategic and coordinated approach to proactive advocacy public relations efforts, including identification of program activities that align with current, relevant media coverage.
  • Create, execute, and monitor marketing and communications campaigns, including creation of materials, stakeholder outreach, and analysis of impact, adjusting campaigns as needed based on data analysis.
  • Manage program-specific and institutional editorial calendars to ensure cohesive and timely execution across projects and priorities, and advise on opportunities to position program leaders through convenings, publications, and peer organizations.
  • Support CEBA external affairs events by driving participant registration and supporting event curation.
  • Support backend communications and marketing process and project management, including responsibility for managing accurate recipient lists for distribution, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • 10+ years’ experience or 7+ years’ experience and bachelor's degree or 5+ years’ experience and master's degree

Additional:

  • Experience in the clean energy, climate, trade association, or corporate environment preferred
  • 3-5 years of public relations, communications, or government relations experience, preferably at a mission-driven nonprofit, trade association, public relations agency, government office, or clean energy company
  • Ability to manage many tasks, prioritize among tasks, and willingness/ability to ask for support or guidance when needed
  • Ability to craft compelling narratives to drive action
  • Ability to create campaigns to drive results against KPIs
  • Project management expertise to both manage incoming asks and predict and plan for the months ahead
  • Ability to deliver high-quality products that complement high-profile advocacy campaigns
  • Exceptional written and verbal communications skills with the ability to leverage visual aids (graphics, videos, PowerPoint presentations)
  • Direct experience in clean energy industry strongly preferred
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Physical Demands:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Travel to meetings, industry conferences, and events
