THE PEOPLE + CULTURE SPECIALIST ROLE
The People + Culture Specialist role supports the firm and the People + Culture team in a variety of HR functions including talent acquisition, performance management, compensation, benefits, and compliance. This position requires a strong attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and the capacity to work with diverse teams across the firm. As part of a highly experienced People + Culture team, you’ll have the opportunity to collaborate with professionals who bring a wealth of knowledge in human resources, executive search, and mission-driven work. The team’s collective expertise, commitment to service excellence, and focus on continuous improvement will provide invaluable mentorship and growth opportunities. The People + Culture Specialist will be responsible for administering key People + Culture processes, maintaining accurate records, and providing essential support in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, be able to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and contribute to building a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE PEOPLE + CULTURE SPECIALIST
The People + Culture Specialist will report to the Director, People Operations and work closely with the full team, supporting the following functions.
People + Culture Operations
- Serve as the first point of contact for all employee questions related to People + Culture.
- Manage the firm’s HR inbox, respond to questions, and triage as appropriate.
- Maintain employee records and the firm’s HRIS, Paylocity, as well as other relevant databases, systems, and documents.
- Support orientation, onboarding, and learning activities; administer and help maintain the Learning Management System.
- Support special projects, including the introduction and evolution of HR programs.
Talent Acquisition + Performance Management
- Support the recruiting and onboarding process, working closely with the People + PIC Operations Managers to schedule, prepare materials, and conduct background checks.
- Manage the annual calendar of reviews and promotion cycles.
- Provide administrative support for the Associate Promotions Committee including scheduling, material preparation, and staff communications.
- Maintain the Performance Management system in Paylocity, working closely with the People and PIC Operations Managers to ensure accurate completion of materials.
Compensation + Benefits
- Manage benefits enrollment and vendor relationships.
- Maintain benefit enrollment database.
- Partner with Craft + Learning colleagues to plan and execute a calendar of compensation and benefits education programming.
- Partner with the payroll team to ensure accurate benefit deductions.

- Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three to five years of People + Culture/Human Resources, project management, or relevant equivalent experience.
- HR certification a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to be service-oriented to the firm’s internal clients.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive matters with discretion and maturity.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of a diverse and inclusive workplace.
- High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook, and prior experience with databases.
- An interest in the mission work of IM’s client base.
- Ability to learn new content areas quickly is essential.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
- Relational talent and an engaging personality.
- The capacity to build rapport and trust with people at all levels and of many different backgrounds, styles, and aspirations.
- The ability to work independently and efficiently.
- Excellent project management and time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines and drive the collaborative completion of shared work.
- Maturity, discretion, and sound judgment in engaging with multiple constituencies, often involving issues of confidentiality.

As an employee-owned firm, IM offers competitive compensation and benefits, including a non-contributory health and dental offering as well as participation in a profit-sharing pension plan and an employee stock ownership plan. The minimum starting salary for this position is $70,000 annually. We value relevant experience for this role that could accelerate contribution and impact to IM. Compensation will be determined based on the relevant experience the candidate brings to the role.
