Job Description
The Office of Senator Eric Schmitt is seeking a highly motivated, hard-working candidate for the role of Press Secretary. The Press Secretary is responsible for all external communications of the Office, including press releases, pitches, reporter contacts, bookings, talking points, and more. The Press Secretary will work closely with the Communications Director to craft messaging on major issues each week, and will work with the communications team to build communications plans for upcoming bill filings, committee hearings, state trips, and other legislative activity. Applicants must have existing relationships with members of the Capitol Hill press corps, and strong relationships with national reporters. Applicants must possess exemplary writing and oral communications skills, must be able to work cohesively with a team, and must be able to adapt to difficult tasks and timelines. National booking experience is preferred but not required. Missouri ties are also preferred, but not required. Senator Schmitt will serve on the Senate Armed Services Committee, Senate Commerce Committee, Senate Judiciary Committee, and Joint Economic Committee in the 119th Congress, so interest in any of those areas is also a plus. Applicants should send their resume and a cover letter to the Communications Director Chris Nuelle at chris_nuelle@schmitt.senate.gov.
