Duties


As an Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for World Trade Organization and Multilateral Affairs, ES-0301-00, your typical work assignments may include the following:


Responsible for the formulation and coordination of U.S. official trade policy positions on WTO matters (e.g., accessions to the WTO, customs and trade facilitation, technical barriers to trade, and government procurement) with participating countries.

Serves as the primary liaison on substantive WTO matters with USTR/Geneva.

Manages analytic studies designed to develop U.S. policy positions on trade issues of major domestic and international importance, utilizing the interagency trade policy committees established for this purpose.

Meets regularly with domestic stakeholders, including the official advisors from the congressionally-mandated private sector advisory committees, the U.S. Congress, senior executive branch officials and representatives of foreign governments.

Represents the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) on a broad range of policy-making and negotiating assignments and works directly with the USTR, the Deputy USTRs, and other cabinet and sub-cabinet level officials in carrying out these assignments.

Represents the U.S. Government at the meetings of the WTO, as required, including regular and special sessions of the WTO General Council and Trade Negotiations Committees, WTO accession working parties, senior official meetings, and certain WTO council and committee bodies, to assure effective administration of the WTO agreements, consistent with U.S. law.

Performs a full range of first and second-level supervisory responsibilities. Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts short-term priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work
