About the Role

DBEDC seeks a detail oriented and resourceful Senior Accountant to work on a part-time basis (22.50 hours). Reporting to the Associate Director of Accounting, this position will play a pivotal role in managing complex financial data and transactions across multiple entities. This position will involve analyzing intricate transaction sources, identifying variances, and developing effective solutions. The ideal candidate will possess a strong accounting background, coupled with a reliable and inquisitive mindset. They will excel in sifting through data and applying their knowledge of accounting, training and intuition. The Senior Accountant will also take accountability for their responsibilities and work independently to drive financial accuracy and transparency.

What you can expect to do in the role:

  • Manage a high volume of monthly balance sheet account reconciliations, approximately 300 accounts including cash and AR.
  • Ownership and responsibility for researching and resolving discrepancies/variances in assigned accounts
  • Monitor assigned balance sheet accounts, track and share reconciliation progress with accounting team
  • Review accounting support for accuracy and completeness
  • Support quarterly and annual financial closes
  • Prepare schedules, reports, and documentation for internal and external stakeholders as requested
  • Lead collaboration with team members and DBEDC departments to continuously improve the accounts payable process and level of service delivery.
  • Actively participates in the design and preparation of schedules for external audit, and financial reporting.
  • Collaborate with members of the accounting team to process accounting entries as needed.
  • Assist the rest of the finance department as needed
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required
  • Must possess minimum of 4 years GL accounting & reconciliation experience |
  • Strong problem solving & analytical skills, and ability to prioritize tasks with competing deadlines
  • The incumbent must be punctual, reliable and must have strong communication skills
  • In-depth knowledge about accounting regulations and procedures including GAAP
  • Experience handling accounting software such as Sage INTACCT or similar programs
  • Proficient in the use of MS Excel including pivot tables
  • Strong attention to details and analytical skills
  • Expert management of general ledger functions, month-end and year-end close processes
  • Accuracy, an aptitude for numbers, and attention to detail
  • Effective communication skills and a collaborative team-oriented approach.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Non-profit experience preferred but not required
  • Candidates with lived experience as a member of Boston’s Dorchester and Roxbury or similar communities will be given preference.
