Position Overview:


Under the supervision of the Stakeholder Engagement Manager, the Stakeholder Engagement Specialist will create and maintain relationships with disproportionately impacted communities, individuals, local agencies, and organizations in Harris County. The Stakeholder Engagement Specialist will develop and execute strategies for gathering and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data from the community about various County projects, programs, policies, and initiatives.


Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Develops strong relationships with disproportionately impacted communities and individuals, local agencies, and organizations in Harris County.
  • Participates in the planning, development, implementation, and monitoring of community engagement strategies, plans and programs.
  • Prepares and conducts presentations to community groups, local agencies and organizations, and other stakeholders.
  • Represents Harris County Public Health by serving on or participating in task forces, working groups, committees, advisory groups, emergency functions, and neighborhood groups
  • Regularly partners with individuals, departments, community representatives or groups, and other outside agencies to obtain information, conduct assessments, identify needs, and ensure effectiveness and consistency of community engagement strategies. Ensures project phases are implemented according to timelines.
  • Prepares written summaries, documents, infographics, and statistical and other reports. Presents conclusions and recommendations to leadership.
  • Performs project and program effectiveness evaluation using performance measures, such as goals accomplished and timetables by selecting appropriate data collection methods, techniques, and procedures.
  • Maintains stakeholder management databases and reporting systems. Other duties as assigned, including special tasks involved in responding to an emergency event.

Requirements


Education & Experience:


  • Bachelor's degree in Planning, Communications, Public Relations, Public Policy/Administration, Government, or a directly related field.
  • At least two (2) years of experience with community engagement, public affairs/community relations/outreach, and/or communications or related field Knowledge of neighborhood and community organizations and local agencies.
  • Experience in event coordination, production, planning procedures and techniques.
  • Experience with business letter writing, grammar and punctuation, and report preparation.

  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal & written).
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and foster teamwork in a diverse environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information.
  • Ability to work well with teammates

General Information


Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:


  • This is a full-time position.
  • Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
  • Other days and hours as necessary.
  • Telework option available after 90 days of consecutive employment.


Work Environment:


  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.


Physical Demands:


  • This is a largely sedentary role; however, some duties would require the ability to lift up to 20 pounds and bending & standing for periods at a time.
