What you’ll be doing:
Verizon is seeking a Counsel, Counsel, State Regulatory and Government Affairs.
Responsibilities for this position will include:
Representing Verizon in state regulatory dockets and other matters before state agencies including regulatory commissions in California and the Western U.S.; provide legal advice and strategy relative to same.
Advocating for Verizon’s interests before the California and other state public utilities commissions, administrative law judges, commission staff, legislative policy committees and other external policy makers in support of Verizon's public policy goals.
Preparing state regulatory filings, comments, briefs, pleadings, and data request responses.
Representing the company at hearings including evidentiary hearings before administrative law judges.
Managing subject matter experts, as needed.
Coordinating outreach with trade associations and third-party stakeholders.
Monitoring state and federal regulatory developments to identify and influence legal/regulatory issues affecting the business and keeping management informed.
Ensuring the company’s compliance with state and federal laws and regulations.
What we’re looking for…
You’ll need to have…
Law degree and six or more years of relevant work experience.
Membership in good standing of the state bar in California (preferred) or at least one other state.
Experience as a lawyer supporting federal regulatory or government affairs, ideally in California.
Knowledge of public policy issues in the communications, cable, or utilities industries, e.g., pricing/economic regulation, competition policy, consumer protection, service quality, network reliability.
Ability to travel on an as needed basis.

Strong advocacy, negotiation and communications skills.
Strong planning and organizational skills.
Proven ability to navigate complex problems, build consensus, and collaborate on mutually beneficial solutions.
Unwavering commitment to ethics and compliance.
Self-starter and evidence of intellectual curiosity.
Knowledge of Verizon operations and business functions or extensive positioning already established in territory.

If you are hired into a California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maryland, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island, Washington or Washington, D.C. work location, the compensation range for this position is between $151,000.00 and $319,000.00 annually based on a full-time schedule. The salary will vary depending on your location and confirmed job-related skills and experience. This is an incentive based position with the potential to earn more. For part time roles, your compensation will be adjusted to reflect your hours.
