Job Description
The Communications Advisor for the Democratic Party of Virginia works with the Executive Director, Chair, Communications Team, and stakeholders to drive earned media coverage and communicate the party’s message. This is an on-the-record position and will include internal and external communications, developing communications plans, executing events, and working with reporters for the highly competitive and nationally watched 2025 gubernatorial race.
Responsibilities
- On the record spokesperson for the governor’s race.
- Plan and oversee events including press conferences, press calls, and creative earned media opportunities.
- Draft media materials, including press releases, talking points, online content, and statements.
- Write short and long-term communications plans.
- Develop pitch ideas and pitch stories to reporters in Virginia and nationally.
- Respond to media inquiries.
- Work with staff to manage difficult communications situations including crisis communications.
Qualifications
- 3+ years working in political communications, preferably at least one cycle on a statewide campaign.
- On-the-record experience.
- Proven ability to execute creative earned media campaigns.
- Previous record of working and communicating with multiple stakeholders.
- A willingness to work in a high-paced campaign environment with unpredictable hours.
Salary and Benefits
- Salary is $6,500 to $7,500 monthly and commensurate with experience.
- Position is based in Richmond, VA.
- PTO available as approved by supervisor, no accruals / balances. Insurance: 100% employer contributions; 4% 401(k) match available after one year of work.
