Center for Inspired Teaching, a Washington DC-based nonprofit that is creating radical change in the school experience for students, away from compliance and toward authentic engagement, is seeking a creative, energetic, highly organized individual to serve as Project Manager.

About Inspired Teaching: We are a social change organization that champions the power of curiosity. We invest in teachers to make school joyful for students. We provide transformative, improvisation-based professional learning for teachers through live programming and the creation and dissemination of resources in the DC region, across the US, and worldwide. 

About the position: This position offers an opportunity to develop an in-depth understanding of the inner workings of a social change nonprofit with nearly 30 years of impact. The Project Manager will work directly with Inspired Teaching’s President and Director of Teaching and Learning, providing valuable support to both leaders as they manage both day-to-day operations and big-picture strategy. The Project Manager will provide valuable administrative support, and also support the organization through writing, engaging with a wide variety of stakeholders, and participating in programming. The ideal candidate will live in the Washington, DC region and will be able to attend live programming and meetings in person. However, we will also consider candidates who live elsewhere, as this position can be done remotely (including participation in online programming). 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Support for the President

  • Draft external communications on behalf of the Founder and President, in coordination with members of the communications team;
  • Assist the Founder and President in the editing and revising of her book, serve as a thought partner in her process, and manage research and outreach related to securing an agent and/or publisher;
  • Manage the Founder and President’s calendar and commitments, arrange her travel, manage email correspondence, coordinate participation in external and internal events, provide comprehensive preparation and follow-up for meetings, manage relationships with key stakeholders, and attend meetings with the Founder or on her behalf;
  • Serve as a liaison between the Founder and a wide variety of stakeholders, including funders, teachers and principals, parents, and local and national education leaders;
  • Support the President in preparing for quarterly board meetings, including compiling programmatic and financial materials for meeting agendas, coordinating with board members to schedule board meetings, and other preparation and follow-up as needed.

Support for the Director of Teaching and Learning

  • Draft external communications on behalf of the Director of Teaching and Learning, in coordination with members of the communications team;
  • Arrange her travel, manage email correspondence, coordinate participation in external and internal events, provide comprehensive preparation and follow-up for key engagements, manage relationships with key stakeholders, and attend meetings both together and on her behalf;
  • Support program administration including participation in planning meetings, support in printing materials, securing sites, ordering food/supplies, follow-up certificates for participants, outreach to school administrators, and potential school visits depending on where you live.

General organizational support:

  • Daily checking of organization-wide email addresses as well as office phone
  • Participating in biweekly staff meetings – supporting the President and the Director of Teaching and Learning in presenting updates to staff.
  • Attending Inspired Teaching events, taking notes, and writing up stories to share with funders and in wider organizational communications to document our work.
  • Assisting with strategic responsiveness to city, regional, and national education affairs and leaders.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Strong customer service ethic and interest in engaging with others
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to manage details and also embrace big-picture strategy and goals
  • Commitment to Inspired Teaching’s mission and to educational equity
  • A curious mind and willingness to embrace an improvisational mindset
  • Bachelor’s Degree 
  • 2+ years experience in a fast-paced work environment that required management of multiple concurrent projects

Pay & Benefits

$52,000 – 55,000 USD annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications
