Position Overview:

 

ADL seeks a proven leader with a successful track record of operations and driving change to help ADL be as effective as possible in fighting antisemitism and hate in communities throughout America. This individual will be committed to supporting the ADL’s mission and its efforts to expand its effectiveness in eliminating antisemitism and hate. Our ideal Senior Vice President, Field Operations blends operational prowess, leadership effectiveness, and creative thinking; has experience and knowledge of how to change society and serve communities; and the ability to assess and evaluate resources, set standards for the 25+ offices/ 4 divisions and help set policies, procedures and systems that enhance the capacities and efficiencies of a dynamic, growing organization.

 

They must be a critical thinker and change agent who can identify operational best practices and effectively implement them. The successful leader will be a proactive individual who can anticipate partnership needs and develop the infrastructure to support successful programmatic expansion, prioritization and implementation. They will have a broad understanding of ADL’s mission, programs and supporting systems, to identify opportunities for growth, leveraging resources and potential risks. They will support the COO and Leadership Team by providing key operational information and analytics, while driving a culture of inclusion, transparency, and accountability. The SVP, Field Operations will promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values commitment to quality and efficient support for program functions.

 

This person will have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to influence others at all levels of the organization. They will have strong management skills including the ability to prioritize, provide feedback, coach, delegate, and make decisions as needed. The ideal candidate will have a track record in establishing relationships marked by trust, respect, and integrity, as well as a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups.

 

The SVP, Field Operations will have high standards for planning, standardization, accountability, data, timeliness, reporting and accuracy.

 

Responsibilities

Reporting to the COO, the SVP, Field Operations will lead and guide the four divisional Vice Presidents and 25+ regional offices in the fulfillment of their various responsibilities to fight antisemitism and hate in communities throughout the United States. This position will be an operational center of a matrixed organization that will enable the flawless execution of programs to help combat antisemitism and hate. They will provide effective leadership and strategies in support of growth and mission impact for ADL. This leader will also oversee the development and administration of the field budget.

 

As a member of the ADL’s executive team, they will collaborate with program leadership, development/fundraising, policy, advocacy, learning and impact efforts to advance integrated and efficient operational plans. This includes fostering and ensuring collaboration amongst the staff members internally as well as with external partnerships.

 

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following areas:

 

Operational Excellence

  • Direct accountability to the COO for the performance of all responsibilities related to the operations of the 25+ offices and key external partnerships.
  • Foster a high-performance culture with clear, meaningful metrics and processes that promote collaboration, innovation, and efficiency to make an impact against antisemitism and hate.
  • Play an active role in recommending strategic directions and initiatives broadly and provide leadership for the overall strategy of regional operations, including technology, dashboarding, budgeting, and capacity planning.

 

Team leadership and Management

  • Provide leadership for overall people strategy in field operations including recruitment, training, professional development, engagement, succession planning, and retention.
  • Provide leadership, in collaboration with the ADL leadership team and regional heads, to integrate mirrored operational capabilities across the entire organization.
  • In partnership with Human Resources, develop ways for ADL to better support and develop its employees’ technical and leadership skills.
  • Ability to communicate across functions, to ensure that all aspects of field operations are strategically positioned to support future organizational growth in a resource constrained environment.
  • Not looking to be the face of the company, this leader works behind the scenes to create new capabilities and competencies in field operations.

 

Partnerships

  • Work with others in the organization to develop, operationalize and effectuate external partnerships.
  • Works to conceptualize modeling, reporting, evaluating and metrics of external partnerships.

Qualifications

Skills:  

  • 15+ years of work experience in operations within a not for profit, government, or private sector business. Expertise in nonprofit administration or related fields is not needed.
  • Extensive experience improving, managing, and scaling processes and procedures in an organization so that it is collaborative and cohesive.
  • Preference for experience in driving social change at national or community levels
  • Brings a proven toolkit to operationalize a complex organizational structure; knows how to measure non-financial impact and put systems/technology in place to drive efficiencies.
  • Experience building teams, influencing cross-functionally, and leading distributed teams/regions.
  • Strong understanding of how to approach business opportunities in a strategic yet tactical way, including but not limited to partnerships and big bets.
  • Experience recognizing the impact of decisions on all components of an organization/ business such as marketing, PR, finance, etc.
  • Ability to understand the complexities/dynamics of a not for profit while being able to employ and activate a commercial mindset.
  • Experience reporting to a COO, CEO, Board of Directors, and/or other key stakeholders on a regular basis.
  • Intellectually curious, current with world events, industry trends and implementing successful general management best practices.
  • Has a “hands on'' and operational approach to managing, with exceptional attention to detail, follow-through, and superior organizational skills.

Education:  

  • A bachelor's degree, preferably a graduate degree, in applicable field, plus additional related courses or professional training or equivalent work experience.

 

Work Environment: 

  • ADL is a hybrid environment; this role may require 3 days in the office.
  • Must be willing to travel extensively and represent ADL across the US.

Compensation: 

  • This position has a salary up to $285,000. This salary is reflective of a position based in New York, New York. Please note that actual salaries are commensurate with experience and reflect the budget for a given position, and since ADL has a location-based compensation structure, there may be a different range for candidates in other locations.
