Laudholm Trust, the 501(c)3 nonprofit partner of the Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve (aka “Wells Reserve at Laudholm”), is seeking an ambitious, entrepreneurial, creative individual to take on significant fundraising duties at a beloved local landmark, to advance its 21st century environmental mission. This full-time Fundraising Coordinator is a long-term position at a beautiful place with smart, honest people doing important, timely work. The Wells Reserve at Laudholm is one of only 30 National Estuarine Research Reserves in the country. It is dedicated to understanding, protecting, and restoring coastal ecosystems of the Gulf of Maine through science, education, and conservation. The Wells Reserve has a visitor center, research lab, and 7 miles of hiking trails through beach, forest, and field. Its Laudholm Farm campus headquarters is on the National Register of Historic Places. 

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • 3+ years of experience
  • College degree preferred

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with a gift for storytelling
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to effectively prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Self-starter with capacity to work independently
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work with donors and staff of diverse backgrounds
  • Computer proficiency, including demonstrated competencies in Microsoft Office and online researching tools
  • Experience with and understanding of donor management software and/or databases recommended. Demonstrated ability to perform mail merges and in-depth prospect research. Knowledge of DonorPerfect strongly preferred.
  • Adaptability and desire to increase knowledge and skills, with an ultimate goal to take on nonprofit executive responsibility

Job Duties / Responsibilities

Primary Duties

  • Provides support for annual giving, membership, grants, major gifts, and corporate sponsorship activities, including prospect research, mailing list creation, production of solicitation materials, proposal and letter drafting, meeting coordination, and assignments for the Board’s Marketing & Fundraising Committee and the President.
  • Researches and maintains donor profiles for annual giving, corporate sponsorships, and major gift prospects
  • Communicates timely appreciation and value of continued philanthropic support through appropriate acknowledgment of gifts, recognition of donors, and the honoring of donor intent
  • Assists with donor cultivation and stewardship efforts, including personalized appeals.
  • Assists with gift entry and acknowledgment of special gifts. Helps manage the donor database to ensure data integrity. Updates donor records with new research and eliminates duplicate records.
  • Records related actions and deadlines related to grants.
  • Collaborates with Communications Director to maintain email lists for monthly email communications, new email solicitations, and online fundraising appeals.

Additional Duties

  • Works up to 6 summer evening donor cultivation events and our major September weekend festival fundraiser. Overtime after 40 hours per week is paid.
  • Attends Board Marketing & Fundraising Committee and other meetings as required.
  • Helps create a welcoming and positive environment for volunteers and works with them effectively.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Benefits

This 37.5-hour position pays $21-26 per hour. It includes majority-subsidized health, vision, and dental coverage; a 403(b) retirement plan with 6.5% company match; long- and short-term disability coverage; federal holidays and paid time off (4 weeks to start). The opportunity to work remotely from home 2-3 days per week is negotiable. Paid parental leave is negotiable.
