L’Alliance New York’s Language Center is the largest language school dedicated to teaching the French language in the tri-state area. With more than 6,000 registrations annually, French instruction is offered in two convenient locations: Manhattan’s Upper East Side and Montclair, NJ. L’Alliance New York offers its programs to toddlers (ages 1-4), kids (5-10) and teens (11-17) from beginner to advanced levels, including French for native speakers. Its Preschool has been offering a full-day and half-day French immersion program for toddlers ages 2½ to 5 in two separate classes/classrooms in Manhattan since 2012.
Position Summary
The VP of Education of L’Alliance New York is a dynamic leader responsible for the strategic, operational, and educational oversight of the broad range of its language programs. The VP of Education champions the mission of L’Alliance to promote French language and culture, while fostering a vibrant, inclusive community of learners and parents. This position requires exceptional leadership, operational and financial expertise, and a strong commitment to language acquisition and early childhood education.
Responsibilities
1. Strategic Leadership
- Develop and implement a long-term vision and strategy for the Language Center in alignment with the broader mission of L’Alliance New York.
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality French immersion programs, including preschool and extra-curricular language classes for youth and adults, while maintaining a strong reputation for excellence in teaching French as a foreign language as well as to native speakers (children and teens).
- Identify and pursue opportunities for growth, partnerships, and community engagement to enhance visibility and impact.
- Lead the integration of innovative technologies into the educational program and curricula.
2. Operational Management
- Oversee all Language Center operations, including budgeting, staffing, facilities management, and compliance with state and local regulations.
- Develop and manage the annual budget, ensuring financial sustainability and efficient allocation of resources.
- Supervise staff, including teachers, administrative personnel, and support staff, fostering a positive, growth-driven work environment.
- Oversee the management of 250+ courses, including corporate, private, adult, and children’s programs, ensuring efficient operations and registration processes.
3. Educational Leadership
- Work closely with the pedagogical teams in Manhattan and Montclair, NJ to design, implement, and evaluate curricula that align with best practices in French immersion, language education, and early childhood development; integrate the Alliances Françaises network’s pedagogical methodologies as appropriate.
- Support faculty in integrating technology-driven teaching methodologies and curriculum innovations.
- Maintain and uphold high standards for safety, inclusivity, and student engagement.
4. Marketing and Communications
- Collaborate with the marketing team to develop and execute a comprehensive marketing strategy aimed at increasing enrollment and community awareness.
- Provide input and oversight for the creation of marketing materials, including brochures, newsletters, social media content, and website updates.
- Organize events, open houses, and outreach initiatives to attract new students and expand community engagement.
5. Community and Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as a primary ambassador for the Language Center, work in collaboration with other L’Alliance New York Senior Leadership to ensure a cohesive and mission-driven approach to community engagement.
- Build strong relationships with students, parents, alumni, and community partners to foster engagement and support.
- Organize and participate in events, workshops, and initiatives that promote the mission and activities of L’Alliance New York.
6. Fundraising and Development
- Work with the development team to identify and secure funding opportunities, including grants, donations, and sponsorships.
- Cultivate relationships with donors and stakeholders to support the Language Center’s growth and sustainability.
- Represent L’Alliance New York in developing strategies and support initiatives for the broader Alliances Françaises network in North America.

Qualifications/Requirements
- A passion for French language and francophone cultures; bilingual proficiency in English and French
- Proven leadership skills which demonstrate a strong capacity to foster creative thinking and teamwork for performance at the highest level.
- A passion for fostering an inclusive environment which promotes diversity and cross-cultural understanding.
- Strong financial acumen, including experience with financial planning, budgeting and financial management.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to adjust to shifting priorities, be meticulous, detail-oriented, and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
- Ability to proof, edit, and maintain high standards in written and verbal communication.
- Master’s degree in Education, Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in leadership roles, preferably in education, nonprofit management, or cultural organizations.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in French teaching, with strong knowledge of French grammar, vocabulary, syntax, and pedagogical methodologies.
- Proven experience in early childhood education and/or French immersion programs is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office the Google Suite and other relevant tools to business management.
- Eligibility to work in the U.S. required.
