Job Description


The Office of Congressman Henry Cuellar, a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee, seeks a Legislative Assistant for his Washington, D.C. office. The Legislative Assistant will assist with a variety of items including: 

  • Draft report language and programmatic requests for Appropriations-related items
  • Draft and introduce legislation
  • Provide co-sponsorship and vote recommendations
  • Help monitor the House floor
  • Manage a portfolio of assigned issues including health care, military construction-VA, education, transportation, and infrastructure
  • Work closely with the Chief of Staff and communications team  

Qualifications for this position include strong organization and time management skills, polished and professional writing, robust leadership, and the ability to operate and deliver under tight deadlines. 

This role requires a strong understanding of the legislative process.

Candidates with Texas ties are preferred but not required.
