What part will you play?
The Editorial Producer is responsible for pitching and booking news-making guests and panelists for The Lead with Jake Tapper. The ability to collaborate well with internal and external stakeholders is critical to this position.
What will you be doing?
This individual will work closely with the Executive Producer and senior producers to brainstorm guest ideas and book top notch guests in a very competitive environment. In addition to keeping up on the week's top stories, the Editorial Producer must also be able to develop, cultivate and maintain new guest relationships. A critical part of this job is working contacts for long term bookings, as well as thinking out of the box to find unique high-profile guests. This includes the show's panels, which are incredibly important and require significant time and energy to come up with just the right mix of guests, depending on the week's news. Strong knowledge of politics is required. This person must also be able to react in breaking news situations and line up news-making lawmakers and principals quickly. This includes a strong grasp of social media in order to find people involved in breaking news situations in remote areas. The Editorial Producer conducts pre-interviews over the phone and sets up on-camera interviews as well as arranges travel and car service for guests as needed. Performs other related duties as assigned. Job requires occasional travel.
What do we need from you? -A qualified candidate for this position must have 3+ years as a booking producer or equivalent experience. -A bachelor's degree in journalism or related field of study is preferred, or equivalent experience. -Research skills are essential. -Proven performance and an established rolodex in booking high profile news guests are necessary. -This candidate must be able to multi-task, execute quickly, and be editorially strong. -Knowledge of current events, key players and politics is a must. -Organizational skills and a political background are key to this position. -Must be able work an extended schedule as the news cycle and deadlines require.
