About Us

The Shule Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is on a mission to provide life-changing opportunities for young boys who have spent their early years on the streets of Uganda. Through the Mavazi Program (Swahili for “apparel”), we give youth a new chance to learn valuable fashion design and production skills, ultimately helping them secure fair-paying jobs and a brighter future.

Role and Responsibilities

As a volunteer fashion mentor, you’ll lead hands-on workshops, teaching former street youth every step of garment creation, from sketching and pattern making to sewing and finishing top-quality shorts and trousers, as well as machine repairs. Whether you stay for two weeks or several months, your time and expertise will make a lasting impact as you inspire and equip our trainees to enter Uganda’s burgeoning fashion industry.

What You’ll Gain

  • Life-Changing Impact: Transform the lives of young men through skill-building and mentorship.
  • Immersive Cultural Experience: Stay in a safe, secure location in Kampala, explore Uganda’s rich culture during off-hours, and create lifelong memories.
  • Professional Fulfillment: Use your skills to make a lasting social impact while contributing to sustainable fashion.

Ideal Candidate

  • Skilled in garment construction, pattern making, and/or design for casual men’s wear
  • Enthusiastic, adaptable, and passionate about mentorship
  • Willing to work collaboratively with young people from diverse backgrounds
  • Must be over 18 years of age.
  • We are looking for Fashion Students, Faculty, and Industry Professionals.

If you’re ready for a unique opportunity to change lives through fashion, come join us in Kampala. Together, let’s craft not only quality garments but brighter futures!
