Job Title: Advocacy Coordinator (Part-Time)  

Position Reports to: Community Partnerships Director 

Salary: $24.00-$27.00

About Foundation for Women Warriors: Since 1920, FFWW programs have prevented homelessness and enhanced the economic wellbeing of women veterans and their families. We provide real solutions and create innovative partnerships to address the following top four needs identified by women veterans: housing, employment, education, and childcare. Our programs help women veterans remain in/obtain safe and affordable housing which help them to work, care for their children and attend school, all of which enhance family stability. 


Purpose of Position: The Advocacy Coordinator is responsible for driving the advocacy and program initiatives of FFWW, representing the organization at community events, and carrying out other duties as assigned to include volunteer coordination, engagement and outreach activities. This part-time role is hybrid: offsite for external events and in-person in Vista, CA for on-site events. The ideal candidate will have experience in advocacy, public policy, community engagement, and grassroots organizing, along with strong organizational and communication skills. 


Duties and Responsibilities: 


Advocacy  

  • Represent the organization at events, community meetings, and public forums. Assists in implementing advocacy strategies and campaigns to advance the organization's mission and programmatic initiatives. 
  • Monitor legislative developments at the local, state, and national levels. Attend local, regional, and national events, legislative meetings, and conferences to represent the organization and establish a strong presence (estimated travel: 20-30%). 
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including policymakers, community organizations, coalition partners, and legislative staff. 


Outreach & Education 

  • Coordinate outreach efforts to educate and mobilize supporters, including organizing education events/campaigns.  
  • Support the planning and execution of community events, workshops, and information sessions. 
  • Organize and conduct presentations to educate the community, raise awareness and build support.  
  • Recruit, train, and coordinate volunteers to support advocacy and program initiatives. Organize volunteer activities, provide guidance, and ensure effective participation. 
  • Prepare meeting reports and advocacy materials to support advocacy and legislative affairs goals. 
  • Maintain accurate records of advocacy activities, meetings, and outreach efforts using the organization’s CRM and other tools. 
  • Track progress on advocacy, legislative, and volunteer engagement goals and prepare regular reports for internal and external stakeholders. 


Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in public policy, political science, social work, nonprofit management, or a related field (or equivalent experience). 
  • 1-2 years of experience in advocacy, legislative affairs, community organizing, public policy, or a related field. 
  • Understanding of the legislative process, policy development, and grassroots advocacy. 
  • Experience in public speaking and representing organizations at events. 
  • Experience working with and coordinating volunteers. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey complex legislative issues clearly. 
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment. 
  • Willingness to travel for events, meetings, and other activities (a valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation are required). 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CRM systems (e.g. Little Green Light). 


Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience working with a nonprofit organization. 
  • Familiarity with women’s initiatives, veteran and military culture. 
  • Bilingual or multilingual abilities.
