Position Overview:
The Special Education Co-Teacher/Case Manager will collaborate with content teachers to serve special education students. Students who are not identified as special education students may require academic remediation and need creative and careful instruction to accelerate their learning.
Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
- Plan backward to align all lessons, activities, and assessments
- Design assessments that accurately assess student progress and/or incorporate digital assessments
- Identify and address individual student's social, emotional, and behavioral learning needs and barriers
- Collaborate with other teachers, tutors, and lab monitor(s) to analyze data, group students, teach, and assign interventions
- Assessing learning styles, modalities, and interests of students and implementing differentiated instruction to meet individual student's needs
- Work with general education teacher(s) to determine accommodations and modifications needed to meet the needs of students with disabilities in the general education classroom
- Deliver student instruction, in modalities instituted by the school and assigned program (may include but are not limited to):
- Individual or Group Direct Synchronous Instruction
- Learning Support
- Life Skills Support
- Itinerant Support
- Resource Room Support
- Telephone conferencing and instruction,
- Parent Learning Opportunities
- Sponsor/Co-sponsor a student club/organization
- Other duties as assigned
Case Management
- Communicate with families regularly regarding grades, progress, and behavior
- Notify all staff who have contact with the student regarding their individual responsibilities
- Collect, analyze, and report data in a meaningful way
- Complete all sections of IEP Progress section and Eligibility Determination sections in SEDS
- Take copious notes in IEP, Eligibility, and MDT meetings to be faxed or uploaded into SEDS
- Hold weekly meetings with students regarding academic and behavioral progress
- Develop and Implement IEPs with measurable goals using Progress Monitoring
- Completes all special education paperwork accurately, according to regulations, and on time
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in special education or a related degree with a heavy focus on literacy, basic computation, or quantitative skills (required)
- Must have or be eligible for certification by OSSE in the appropriate content area within one (1) year of employment (required)
- Teaching experience with youth at the secondary level
- Familiarity with research-based instructional methods and curriculum development
- Knowledge of student-centered instruction, performance-based assessments, and youth development principles
