Job Description

Concerned Veterans for America (CVA) is a leading non-profit organization dedicated to advocating for policies that protect the freedoms and liberties our veterans fought for. We work to ensure veterans' voices are heard on critical issues, including health care reform, national defense, and economic opportunity. Our mission is to preserve the American Dream for future generations by promoting a free society and limited government.

We are seeking a dynamic, visionary Executive Director to lead the organization and continue our work in empowering veterans and driving policy reform.

The Executive Director will be responsible for the overall strategic, operational, and leadership functions of CVA. This role will report to the Chief Operating Officer and work closely with key stakeholders to advance CVA’s mission, including policymakers, veteran groups, donors, and the media.

CVA is part of Americans for Prosperity and the Stand Together philanthropic community.

What You Will Do:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive strategic vision to drive the organization's mission and growth.
  • Lead the development of new initiatives, campaigns, and programs to influence public policy and support veterans.
  • Collaborate with other leaders in the organization to identify priorities, goals, and develop action plans.
  • Analyze the political landscape to identify opportunities for impactful advocacy and ensure the organization stays ahead of emerging trends.
  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a dedicated team of staff members and volunteers, fostering Principle Based Management ® culture.
  • Build and maintain a high-performing leadership team capable of achieving the organization’s mission.
  • Serve as the primary spokesperson and public face of CVA, representing the organization in media appearances, public forums, and meetings with policymakers.
  • Build and maintain relationships with elected officials, government agencies, veteran groups, donors, and other key influencers.
  • Oversee the development of advocacy and outreach campaigns to engage the veteran community and broader public in CVA’s initiatives.

What You Bring:

  • Proven experience in a senior leadership role, preferably within a non-profit, advocacy, or policy-driven organization.
  • Strong background in strategic planning, organizational leadership, and operational management.
  • Demonstrated passion for veterans’ issues and a commitment to the mission of protecting their freedoms and opportunities.
  • Excellent communication skills, with experience in public speaking, media relations, and stakeholder engagement
  • Ability to build and maintain strategic partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders, including policymakers, veteran groups, and donors.
  • Proven ability to inspire and manage teams.
  • Military experience or experience working with veterans is preferred.

What We Offer:

  • A meaningful career where your work will improve the lives of millions of Americans
  • A vision-driven organization of over 1,000 employees across the country who are dedicated to improving the lives of others
  • Competitive salaries and bonuses. Our salary and bonus strategies are aligned to the value you create, not a standardized bell curve
  • Generous 401K match - 6% match with immediate vesting
  • Competitive health and wellness benefits
  • Our flexible time-off policy allows all employees to take leave as needed
  • A purchasing credit card to use for business expenses
  • Mileage reimbursement for business travel separate from your commute
  • Commuter assistance plans to offset the cost of commuting into our headquarters (on-site parking or metro)
  • Opportunities for professional development and mentorship that can strengthen your effectiveness through Principle Based Management and other industry specific programs
