The Team You’ll Work With
The Office of the Chief of Staff is responsible for scheduling and preparing the Mayor for his daily briefings, meetings and events. The team led by the Mayor’s Chief of Staff coordinates the operations of the Office of International Affairs, the Office of Operations, the Office of Special Projects and Community Events, the Office of Citywide Event Coordination and Management, Gracie Mansion, and the Office of Correspondence, the Office of Engagement, the Office of Emerging Markets, the Office of Sports, Wellness, and Recreation, and the Office of Asylum Seeker Operations.
The Problems You’ll Solve Advise the Chief of Staff on the strategic direction of policy and long-term planning for the City of New York. Supporting an evidence-based approach to policymaking and planning through research, engagement, data gathering and analysis to support various policy approaches and tracking and working with agencies to advance strategic planning initiatives across the Administration. Managing policy initiatives day-to-day, determining key touchpoints, and keeping leadership apprised of developments and decisions needed. Coordinating with relevant City stakeholders to improve project tracking across City agencies, including in budget and KPI tracking. Regularly engaging city agencies and external partners to fact find, ground truth, co-design and build support for policies and plans.
The ideal candidate is eager to work in local government, thrives in a fast-pace environment, has some understanding of NYC politics, and is interested to learn more about how New York City operates Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Project Manage team initiatives as assigned by the Chief of Staff
• Provide qualitative and quantitative research on local, state, and federal policies within the portfolio
• Provide general support on projects on behalf of Chief of Staff team • Monitor projects and other day-to-day issues, as assigned.
About You
• You have 8-10 years’ experience working in policy, planning, and/or government.
• You have some community-based and/or community development experience preferred.
• You have spatial analysis (GIS), data analysis, research, strategic planning, and presentation skills.
• You can operate independently with excellent time management skills and confirmed ability to deliver on multiple, competing priorities in a dynamic environment.
• You have the ability to effectively interact with people and partners across all levels and sectors.
• You are solutions-oriented and have proven ability to follow through on complex projects from idea to implementation.
• You have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical information into clear and compelling presentations for an array of audiences.
• You are organized and detail-oriented; able to track and analyze data, spot trends and juggle multiple projects at the same time.
• You are curious about urban challenges and a belief in government’s ability to improve the lives of New Yorkers. • You have proven commitment to equity and some management experience preferred.
Salary The City of New York Office of the Mayor’s compensation package includes a market competitive salary, equity for all full-time roles and exceptional benefits.
Our cash compensation range for this role is $239,969.00.
