Job Summary
This position is located in the District of Columbia Board of Elections (BOE), Office of the Executive Director, Voter Services Division, whose mission is to enfranchise eligible residents, conduct elections, and assure the integrity of the electoral process as mandated by both federal and local laws. BOE is expanding its mission to increase civic participation and provide citizens of the District of Columbia with vital information and data to enhance the voter experience.
The Election Services Assistant is responsible for responding to written, telephonic, or in-person inquiries regarding voter registration, candidate qualification, and other election issues. The assistant also assists with data entry and maintains documents and data for the voter registry program and responds to qualification, verification, election processing, and ballot tabulation.
Duties And Responsibilities
The Incumbent has overall responsibility for coordinating lobby processes and responding to basic and simple customer inquiries, requests, and complaints. Forwards complex and non-routine inquiries or requests to the appropriate level for resolution. Assists with data entry, maintaining documents and data for the voter registry program, and responding to customer questions regarding qualifications, verifications, election processing, and ballot tabulations. Receives, reviews, updates, and processes voter registrations, absentee ballots, candidate filings, nomination petitions, and ballot measures and issues voter identification cards. Assists in preparing voter and candidate guides and materials. As requested, distribute voter lists, indices, reports, statistics, and other voter and election material.
Sorts and distributes mail; assists in maintaining and managing an effective filing system of voter registrations, absentee voter lists, and voter history data. Assists with pre- and post-election activities such as testing voting equipment, canvassing, ballot tabulation, and audits, recounts, and reviews of write-in votes. Assists in providing, receiving, reviewing, updating, and processing voter registrations, absentee ballots, candidate filings, nomination petitions, and ballot measures; issues voter identification cards. Assists in preparing voter and candidate guides and materials. Assists with the assembly of Election Day poll books, master street indexes, poll watcher lists for each precinct, and library listings as needed.
Education/Experience
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Incumbent must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the grade 06 level in the District of Columbia government service or its non-District equivalent, demonstrating the ability to perform the position's duties. Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position and has equipped the individual with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position including successfully, but are not limited to, responding to customers' written, telephonic or in-person inquiries, requests and complaints regarding processes, assisting internal and external customers with voter registration, utilizing the data system to enter data and run reports and performing mass mailings.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work is typically performed in an office setting. The incumbent will be required to perform some work outdoors in the community, at the agency’s warehouse, at polling places, and at other offices periodically. Position will require long periods of sitting and some standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying items up to 50 pounds. This position requires working irregular hours, weekends, holidays and evenings during election cycles. Promotion potential - None.
