Job Description

The Development Director reports to the Executive Director and directs and the agency’s fundraising, communication, and marketing efforts. The Director will develop, lead, and execute a strategic plan for private sector and individual donor cultivation and relationship building, as well as external communications and marketing. The position works closely with the Executive Director, board development committee, and staff to identify and build long-term relationships with current and potential donors, foundations, and sponsors to advance the agency’s mission and programs. This is a full time salary exempt position.

JOB DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Donor Cultivation

1.Develop and oversee strategic fund development plan.

2.Steward overall donor cultivation and annual fund development effort.

3.Develop and manage annual budgets related to fund development and affiliated revenue.

4.Coordinate calendar of regular donor communications and appeals.

5.Conduct targeted written and in-person asks related to major donor giving, corporate sponsorships, planned giving, etc.

6.Lead the development of themes, goals, and strategies around giving events.

7.Review and advance new strategies for growing endowments, major gifts, and planned giving.

Marketing & Communications

8.Develop, lead, and execute a strategic plan for donor related communications and marketing.

9.Develop print and electronic materials to support the annual fundraising goals, including solicitation letters, major donor packets, event invitations, social media posts, etc. Review and approve all development-related materials developed by others.

10.Liaise with consultants, print vendors, partners, and others to ensure brand fidelity, and impactful data analysis and impact reporting.

Leadership and Management

11.Provide strategic leadership for agency’s foundation grant and relationship development, coordinating with the agency’s management team, finance, and grant writer.

12.Set and track annual targets and ensure donor data is accurate and up to date. Use donor data to focus strategic fund development planning.

Report YTD donor and marketing activity to Board and its development committee.

13.Inspire, motivate, train, and oversee the efforts of Board Members, agency staff, and volunteers in the work of fund development and communications.

14.Oversee, supervise, and train fundraising staff, contractors, vendors, and volunteers.

15.May be asked to assist and support with limited, focused, high-level, direct donor ask campaigns, such as, capital, investment, or housing development, as needed.

16.Serve as a member of the Core Management and Leadership Teams and act as the liaison to the board development committee.

17. Participate in agency meetings and trainings; attend or facilitate various strategic meetings in the community.

18. Other related duties as assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

Education & Experience 

    • Bachelor Degree in Social Sciences, Fund Development, Nonprofit Management, or related field.
    • 3-5 years’ experience in donor cultivation, grant writing, public relations, marketing and fundraising experience, with a proven fund development record.
    • Experience in developing and executing communication strategy preferred.

Or a combination of education and experience providing the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work.

License(s) & Certification(s)

    • Must have valid driver license and auto liability insurance if personal vehicle is used for work-related travel.

    • Knowledge of local community.
    • Well-organized, versatile, and adaptable to changing and complex job priorities.
    • Strong public speaking and presentation skills and ability.

    • Ability to build strong and authentic relationships with peers, donors, funders, and community members; Relate to stakeholders professionally and dynamically.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Adobe Pro and Outlook.Familiarity with DonorPerfect, Qgiv, and Adobe Creative Suite helpful (e.g., InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator).
    • Must have strong and effective communication skills (oral and written).
    • Working knowledge of standard office procedures and technologies (phone, computer, printer, photocopier, scanner, fax machine).
    • Demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with people from varied cultural, socioeconomic, educational, and experiential backgrounds.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay Range Wage between: $6,445.05 - $8,054.73 salary per month (DOE)
