Ranking Member Alex Padilla seeks a committee oversight counsel to join the Democratic staff of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee. Qualified applicants are required to have knowledge of Senate procedure and ability to handle legal and oversight aspects of Congressional and Senate operations. Key responsibilities include working with the Chief Counsel to support Senate office compliance with Senate Rules and regulations, and conduct oversight of agencies such as the Architect of the Capitol, U.S. Capitol Police, Senate Sergeant at Arms, Secretary of the Senate, the Library of Congress and Smithsonian. Responsibilities also include assisting in policy and oversight on election administration and campaign finance matters under the Committee’s jurisdiction; legislative drafting; coordinating and collaborating with other committees and congressional staff; and advising the Ranking Member, Staff Director and Committee staff on legal matters. This job demands a candidate who possesses reliability, trustworthiness, energy, good political judgement, and a team attitude. They must also have clear and concise communication abilities, strong writing skills, attention to detail, and an ability to meet deadlines. A law degree and prior Hill or related experience is required.
