AWS Public Policy Manager – Central America

Based in Miami, Florida, Washington, DC or possibly Bogota, Colombia.

Extensive travel required.

10+ years of experience representing a large company or association, preferably but not necessarily in the Internet/tech industry, before policymakers, including significant experience on public sector acquisition and procurement policy, regulated industries, in particular financial regulation; preferably in Central America. Experience should include deep understanding of in-country legislative and policymaking processes.

A Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in a relevant discipline (Law, Political Science, Public Policy, Engineering, etc.) An advanced degree is preferred.

Strong knowledge of and background in advocacy and public policy development pertaining to information technology-related (IT) issues such as an “innovation agenda” and public sector policies such as cloud computing, government IT management reform, IT infrastructure/applications, renewable energy, procurement and contracting, information assurance/cyber security, IT services, corporate compliance, and association leadership experience.

Highly effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills; demonstrated ability to effectively and comfortably interact at highest corporate, state and local government levels.

Maintain highest personal levels of ethical conduct, confidentiality and integrity, with strongest professional reputation in the industry.

Self-starter with proven track record of successfully working with a wide array of functional groups across an organization and cultures.

Capable of working both independently and as part of a broader team with internal and external stakeholders as needed.

Ability to identify and understand key technical aspects pertaining to corporate operations in legislative and regulatory proposals, understand business implications, and synthesize policy documents for internal and external customers.

Ability to influence, negotiate with, and persuade others is required.

Must be flexible and demonstrate strong judgment/decision-making skills, and political acumen.

Demonstrated ability to build and foster effective relationships and networks with others.

Do you have the experience in the region that is necessary to help further advance the public policy agenda of Amazon Web Services (AWS)*, a leading cloud services provider and subsidiary of Amazon.com?

We are looking for a talented, innovative, and well-connected individual to represent AWS before national IT decision makers and senior government executives, particularly in Central America. You will address risks and opportunities for the business in these countries and throughout the region. You will promote and advocate for government digital transformation and a flexible regulatory environment for cloud adoption in regulated industries including the education, energy, financial services, healthcare, and telecom sectors. You will become familiar with all aspects of AWS’s business in the region, and interface directly with relevant business units and technology and services teams at AWS.

Reporting to the Leader of AWS Public Policy team for Latin America this government affairs position shall:

Assist in developing and executing government affairs advocacy objectives and public policy priorities on behalf Amazon Web Services (AWS) and our customers throughout Central America;

Work collaboratively and transparently with the AWS commercial and public sector business teams to ensure alignment between core business priorities, public policy goals and “go to market” strategies;

Facilitate high-level meetings between AWS executives and key stakeholders, including state and local policy makers and executives, industry associations, and alliance partners to promote and advocate the company’s public policy policies; and

Leverage appropriate corporate membership opportunities in industry associations and policy organizations on behalf of AWS, and ensure appropriate utilization of outside consultants when necessary.
