Job Description
The Employer Engagement Specialist role supports the Career Exploration external engagement efforts through employer engagement related programming and interacts with external constituents including employers and alumni. This position oversees student office assistants and manages Handshake - Macalester’s job and internship platform. Additionally this role collaborates with the Director, career advising and employer engagement teams to support departmental programming, initiatives, and data collection.
This is a hybrid position, 3 days a week in the office with the option to work 2 days a week from home. The daily work hours are 8:00 am-4:30 pm Monday through Friday.

Macalester’s Career Exploration offers programs, services and appointments for students. Our team provides tailored career exploration and preparation for students of all majors. Career Exploration is committed to empowering and advising students in their career journey, by fostering connections, building skills, and embracing continuous learning and self discovery.
Responsibilities
Employer Engagement and Program Support:
- Assists the Director of Employer Engagement to identify and build relationships with local, regional, and national employers in order to provide Macalester students with quality internship and full-time employment opportunities.
- Manages logistics and provides administrative support for on-campus recruitment activities and employer and alumni related programming including employer tabling, info sessions, career fairs, and other initiatives to ensure a seamless recruiting process on campus.
- Conducts meetings with employers when needed to foster relationship building and to explore opportunities for employers to engage on campus.
- Assists the Director with communicating internship and full-time job opportunities to the career advising team as well as Macalester students.
- Assists with data collecting, tracking, and reporting of employer engagement activities.
- Utilizes a CRM system to track employer contacts, meeting notes, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information for communication and relationship management.
- Coordinates logistics for career treks and coordinates student reimbursements for program participation as needed.
- Supports diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives; actively works to eliminate barriers to participation and consistently participates in DEI-related professional development.
- Oversees and responds to the recruiting email inbox.
- Assists with budget tracking and reconciliation.
Data and Technology:
- Manages recruiting platform (Handshake), including employer and job approvals, providing staff training and troubleshooting problems.
- Works with the Registrar's Office to ensure data feed to Handshake is accurate and fields are populated correctly.
- Conducts post-employer event evaluations, gathering and analyzing data
- Ensures recruiting platform data integrity.
- Serves as a key point of contact for recruiting platform provider.
Student Worker Supervision:
- Recruits, hires, trains, supervises, evaluates, and manages time reporting for student front desk staff.
- Serves as the central point of contact to coordinate front desk student staff project assignments.
- Trains student employees to approve postings for Handshake. Develops standard operating procedures in conjunction with Director for Handshake posting approvals and employer communications.
- Participates in and contributes to college related programming for student work supervisors.
Performs other duties as assigned:
- Represents Career Exploration at campus and community functions.
- Actively involved in relevant associations and consortia
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree required
- 1-3 years of relevant experience
- Experience in an administrative or project management role (1-3 years).
- Excellent oral and written communication skills including editing and proofreading. Strong attention to detail, and organizational skills
- Proficient with utilizing software to manage systems and processes (Handshake, Google suite)
Compensation:
The hourly wage for this position will be $24.63 - $25.75, depending on experience.
