Congressman Tony Cárdenas (CA-29) seeks an experienced Communications Director to lead, manage and execute a fast-paced and proactive communications operation. Qualified candidates should possess at least three years of political communications experience, strong writing and editing skills, experience speaking on the record, strong relationships with the press, proficiency with social media platforms, creativity and quick good judgment, an understanding of local and national issues and a strong knowledge of franking and mass communication.  

Duties will include, but are not limited to developing an overall communications plan; overseeing the Congressman’s web and social media presence; preparing the Member for interviews; writing press releases, talking points, op-eds and floor speeches; executing a mass communications program; working closely with legislative staff on policy messaging; planning and managing press and community events; pitching stories and interviews; serving as the primary spokesperson; maintaining existing relationships with local and national press; and supervising a Digital Director/Press Secretary in D.C. and a Press Assistant in the district. 

This is not an entry-level position.  Spanish fluency is preferred. Hill experience and Southern California ties are a plus.
