Founded in 1988, Food & Friends provides freshly prepared meals, nutrition support, and friendship to people living with AIDS, cancer, diabetes, and other life-challenging illnesses. Our team of seventy employees and thousands of volunteers delivers meals and hope to people living in the District of Columbia and multiple counties across Maryland and Virginia. There is no charge or income qualification for our services, which are rendered solely on the basis of medical need.


The Major Gifts Officer is an exciting opportunity to raise major and leadership gifts to support Food & Friends’ $30M Nourish Together: Building a Healthy Community campaign and annual operations. This position will research, identify, develop and strengthen relationships between Food & Friends and targeted donors who are able to give major a gift ($25,000 -$99,000) and/or a campaign leadership gift ($100,000+). The Major Gifts Officer will:


•    Build a portfolio of 100-125 donors by identifying, researching, and qualifying prospects;

•    Maintain an active schedule of “moves management” to cultivate, solicit, and steward donors through a variety of means including personal meetings, phone calls, email, written communications, cold calls, networking, tours, and events;

•    Develop briefing memos, proposals, stewardship materials, and other written collateral to cultivate, steward, and acknowledge donors;

•    Meet with other development staff regarding donor pipeline and strategy and to qualify/disqualify donors for the optimal giving channels;

•    Work with Campaign Steering Committee to develop their network of campaign prospects; and

•    Routinely work in Raiser’s Edge to enter donor notes and profile updates, track Campaign progress, and produce reports.  

 

Must be willing to work in a traditional office environment.


The successful candidate will have at least six years of experience, including at least four years of experience raising gifts of $10,000+. Experience with donor research, successful donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. Excellent oral and written communication skills a must, as are strong computer and database skills.  Requires driver’s license and good driving record.  Must appreciate working with diverse populations. Offer of employment contingent upon a pre-employment drug test.
