WHAT YOU’LL DO
Teach For America - Nevada seeks a Managing Director, External Affairs to build champions for our organization within our city and state by being a storyteller, stewarding public and community partnerships, and activating our network to advocate for our work. The ideal candidate for this role has prior external affairs, coalition-building and strategy experience. You are fulfilled by taking deep personal responsibility for the success of your organization and igniting passion in potential partners to advocate for our shared work. You are an expert in the Nevada external affairs space, have a strong ability to influence others, and are committed to using your voice to work toward educational equity. You are a skilled communicator and also enjoy the behind the scenes of the work of turning what you’re learning internally into strategy and project plans. You also are highly skilled at engaging with key stakeholders and enjoy connecting this portfolio of leaders with each other and other local leaders, all toward building stronger coalitions.
As a result of your work, Teach For America Nevada will grow our presence and visibility across the state and will have a more robust and connected network that is able to collaborate around key issues and foster systems-level change toward educational equity in Nevada.
WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR
Communications & Marketing:
  • Develop and manage a comprehensive and aligned communications strategy.
  • In partnership with the Executive Director and other regional staff, craft and tell the story of Teach For America’s vision and impact in Nevada.
  • Write, edit, and proofread various external communications and develop printed and digital brand materials.
  • Develop and manage regional social media strategy.
  • Create and track key goals and metrics related to the overall communication strategy.
  • Cultivate and manage relationships with others in the communication ecosystem (bloggers, journalists, local media, etc.).
Community Engagement & Coalition Building:
  • Support the creation and execution of a broader strategy for public engagement and coalition building.
  • Support the engagement, impact, and operations of our local advisory board.
  • Assist with regional efforts to build networks and coalitions focused on our goals for impact.
  • Set and track goals for public and community engagement.
  • Build and steward relationships with a portfolio of high-impact alumni leaders within our communities, with the aim of strengthening talent matching and coalition building.
  • Portfolio manage or lead key relationships in the public sector, influencing support and advocacy for Teach For America. This may include relationships with alumni, legislators, city and district officials, non-profit leaders, etc.
  • Lead, implement, and support a variety of events to engage community partners, expand our networks, and build brand awareness.
Additional Regional Responsibilities:
  • Support, attend, and participate in regional team activities, including corps member and alumni-facing events, staff meetings, functional team meetings and retreats, and more.
  • Operate flexibly to lend skills and capacity to meet the needs of emerging projects or priorities as they arise.
A WEEK IN THE LIFE
Over the course of any week, the role title will spend time:
  • Implement and iterate a communications strategy including building relationships with local media, developing collateral, and overseeing social media
  • Engaging Advisory Board members through in-person meetings and regular updates
  • Represent Teach For America at community events and via meetings with key stakeholders
YOUR EXPERIENCE
Your areas of knowledge and expertise that matter most for this role (minimum qualifications):
  • At least 7 years of experience in external affairs, including communications and marketing and cultivating relationships with external stakeholders.
  • Experience developing and managing effective social media campaigns.
  • Strong knowledge of the Nevada and Las Vegas landscape and ability to use it to navigate decision making to influence change.
  • Ability to convey complex ideas concisely and compellingly in a variety of formats to a range of external audiences.
  • Ability to understand the beliefs, motivations, contexts and barriers of others and the ability to influence.
  • Experience using organizational skills and detail orientation to manage complex change efforts and projects.
  • You are a cultural leader and operate as a standard bearer for your organization’s values. You actively and productively engage in dialogue to further your commitment and your organization’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusiveness.   • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and Salesforce.

YOUR COMPENSATION
The applicable salary range for each U.S.-based role is based on where the employee works and is aligned to one of 3 tiers according to a cost of labor index in that geographic area. Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role. The expected salary ranges for this role are set forth below. These ranges may be modified in the future.
