DEPARTMENT PURPOSE AND STRUCTURE

Our Research & Library division plays a crucial role in supporting some of the world’s most successful companies, investment banks, and private equity firms by providing cutting-edge research and analysis that underpin critical financial strategies and decisions.

The US Research team is part of the global A&O Research and Library function. This team comprises three functions: Library – responsible for procurement and technical services; Research – responsible for legal and financial requests; and the Strategic Research Group (SRG) which complements the Research Service by offering in depth, bespoke research support to client teams.

The US Research team mirrors this structure with a local focus, being responsible for supporting attorneys across our US offices. The team provide our attorneys with all research and resource requirements, managing all information assets and budgets and providing timely research support.

JOB DESCRIPTION

CONTEXT
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Research Analyst to join one of our Texas or California offices. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in legal, business, and competitive intelligence and familiar with the California or Texas legislative landscape. The ideal candidate will act as a liaison to our Texas or California based attorneys, ensuring seamless communication and collaboration with our teams. This role requires an independent worker with a collaborative approach to contribute to the growth of our research and library team.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conduct comprehensive legal, business, and competitive intelligence research to support attorneys and clients.
  • Analyze and synthesize complex information from various sources to provide actionable insights.
  • Act as a liaison between California and Texas-based attorneys, facilitating smooth information flow and collaboration.
  • Develop and maintain a repository of research materials and resources.
  • Assist in the creation and implementation of research strategies to support legal cases and business development.
  • Provide training and guidance to attorneys and staff on effective research methods and tools.
  • Collaborate with team members to build a robust and efficient research and library team.
  • Stay current with industry trends and best practices in legal and business research.

TEAM
This position reports directly to the Director, U.S. Research & Library and collaborates closely with various team members, including the wider Research & Library team, attorneys, and staff.

KEY REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s degree is required. A master’s degree in library science, Information Science or Law is preferred.
  • 5-7 years of experience in legal, business, and competitive intelligence research within a law firm or corporate environment.
  • Proven ability to act as a liaison and work effectively with attorneys and staff.
  • Highly specialized experience in complex litigation and corporate research is preferred.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge and experience conducting research using external tools, such as Pitchbook, Preqin, Capital IQ, Bloomberg Law, Lexis and Westlaw
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing to a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
  • Preference will be for the candidate to work 60% in office, per firm standard, to foster collaboration and team integration.

This role is open for individuals based in Texas or California. For individuals assigned to or hired for this opportunity in California, the estimated annualized base salary range for this position is $109,000 - $132,000. The actual base salary offered will depend on the overall qualifications of the individual applicant for the position and other job-related factors permitted by law.
